Derian L. Green, Sr. Obituary

Derian L. Green Sr. the eldest Son of Betty E. Green was born in Buffalo, New York and was Blessed with the love of his Grandparents Geneva (Aiken) Green and Willie D. Green who raised him and his Brother Wilbert.

As a child his Grandmother Genny ensured that he attended Church on a regular basis and raised a strong young man who was respectful and responsible as he experienced growing up in society dealing with and handling the ups and downs of life with Pride and Dignity.

As a youth Derian showed skills in the academic field. After attending Public Schools 53 and Hutchinson Technical High School, Derian obtained a Scholarship to Howard University in Washington  D.C. where he received a Bachelorette of Science in Business. Upon graduating from Howard University, Derian was drafted into the United States Army during the Viet Nam War; however his Academic skills were most valuably implemented stateside.

Derian never met a stranger and could and would strike up a conversation with anyone. By the time his conversation was over his new found friend knew he spent time in Buffalo, Syracuse, California, Arizona and finally settling with his loving Children Karyn and Jay in Cincinnati, Ohio. Derian affectionately known by Family and Friends as “BUTCH” was an Avid Golfer and would head to the golf course whenever his health permitted.

Derian was a Proud Member of his Fraternity Kappa Alpha Psi where he was recently acknowledged for celebrating Fifty Years of Membership with his Fraternity. an organization he was deeply Proud of and Highly Respected It was well deserved and earned.

Derian enjoyed going to and would frequent the movies with his grandchildren in loving tow. He was also a fan of good music and videos. He made it his business to come to Buffalo every July to partake of the Family Reunion of which this past July celebrated 48 years of Family Gathering. Anybody who knew Derian “Butch” Green, knew for a fact he was “THE NUMBER ONE BILLS FAN” in the Country. Just ask the Folk in Ohio. We just can’t figure out how he never landed a job with the Coaching Staff. He knew everything related to the Bills and wouldn’t hesitate to send emails to the Buffalo Bills Franchise, Owners, Coaches and Players and to the Team Physical Therapists. Perhaps it was because they were looking for a Personal  Note from “Denzel Washington” …Hmmm.

Derian was preceded in death by his parents Betty and Stepfather Herminio Velazquez, Grandparents Geneva and Willie Green, Brother Theo Brown, Sister Cassandra Watson. He leaves to cherish and celebrate his memory his Pride and Joy, Daughter, Karyn (Damon) Frost, Son, Derian “Jay” (Kisha) Green Jr., Three Adored Granddaughters, Kennedy, Sydney and Gabrielle,  His Loved Brother Wilbert (Sandra) Green and a host of nieces and nephews and many more wonderful Family Members and Friends. All of whom mourn the loss of a Wonderful Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle, Cousin, and Dear Friend.

DERIAN LEROY GREEN SR.

He Only Takes the Best

God saw that he was tired,

A cure was not to be found.

So he put his arms around him

With tearful eyes we watched him suffer,

And saw him fade away

Although we love him dearly,

We could not make him stay.

A golden heart stopped beating,

Hard working hands to rest.

God broke our hearts to prove to us

He only takes the best
