Gerald Blaine Patterson was born November 1, 1953 in Cincinnati, Ohio to George A. Patterson and Vezenter (Fields) Patterson. He was one of seven children, three of which preceded him in death. On Thursday, October 4, 2018 Gerald transitioned from this earthy life into an eternal rest.
Gerald grew up in the Avondale Community attending Cincinnati Public Schools and completing high school in 1971. He continued his education at Stowe school’s machine operator’s program and was a graduate of the Ohio Operating Engineers Program in Morrow, Ohio.
Gerald was very skilled with his hands and began his career as a heavy equipment operator for Schweitzer Construction Co. He was later employed with Fusite/ Division of Emerson for 28 years until his retirement in 2017.
In 1979, he married Wanda Belcher. That union was blessed with one son and two step children.
Gerald became a member of Mt. Zion Methodist Church in 1980 and served on the Trustee Board and as the church van driver. He continued to serve as the driver after the church was merged, becoming New Vision United Methodist Church until his health prevented him from driving.
Gerald loved art and creating beautiful works from “junk”. He often painted background scenes for church plays . He also loved tending to his plants, watching sports and playing with his grandchildren.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Wanda; sons Brandon Patterson (Natasha),and Jerome Belcher, Jr. both of Cinti, Ohio; two brothers, Herbert Patterson, Cinti., Ohio and James Fields (Betty) of Atlanta, Ga.; one sister, Donna Williams (Elbert) Cinti., Ohio; brother in law, Don Merritt (Janice), Marietta, Ga.; sister in law, Angela Burbridge (Wendell) Cinti., Ohio. He also leaves 9 grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
He will be greatly missed.
