Mother Juanita Crittenton was born December 15, 1924 in Rogersville, Alabama to the late Andrew and Ada (Ingram) Freeman. To this union were born nine children: Juanita, Calvin “Coot”, Jimella, Herbert “Dek”, Eula Mae, Laura, Arizona, Leola and Sam; all of whom preceded her in death, except for Jimella.
Her mother died giving birth to the youngest child. The children were then raised by their maternal grandparents, Luther Crease and Ola Ingram.
She was raised to love and trust God. At an early age, she committed her life to Christ.
She married Albert Crittenton on October 24, 1942 in Florence, Alabama. To this union were born six children, Verna Jean, Bernard (preceded her in death), Brenda Joyce (preceded her in death), Phyllis Ann, Albert Leon (preceded her in death) and Kevin Mark. They were married just two months short of 65 years.
They moved to Cincinnati in 1946. They joined the New Friendship Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Harvey Benford.
In 1975, Juanita joined Bethlehem Temple Apostolic Church under the leadership of the late Bishop Elzie W. Young and continued under the leadership of the late Bishop Johnnie L. Johnson and then Bishop James Chapman. In June of 2008, she joined Hope for You Family Life and Worship Center under the leadership of Bishop Larry Dempsey and remained a member until her passing.
She was employed at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital for over 25 years and retired in 1989.
She leaves to cherish her memory: children, Verna, Phyllis and Kevin; one son-in-law, Odell Stanton, Jr. and one daughter-in-law, Rebecca Crittenton; 10 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
