Theresa Ann Reed was born in Chicago, IL on March 8, 1949 to the late Armpy Lee Betts and Elizabeth Taylor. She was the third child from this union of six children: Mary Alice, Fadiah Amatullah, Delores Still, James Johnson and Hubert Johnson. She moved to Akron, OH when she was three years old. Theresa graduated from South High School in Akron, OH in June 1967, then soon after, she attended MTI Business School in Los Angeles, California.
Theresa was and is a beautiful woman, who had a beautiful heart and soul. Theresa’s pride and joy was her family.
Theresa was the first African American female hired into Data Entry work at Roadway Express in the year 1968, retiring in the year 2007 from the IT Department, completing a full 39 years of service. Theresa, along with her Roadway friends, started a Birthday Club called the 7 Wonders which they called her the sergeant because she always kept everyone in order. She remained a member until her passing.
Before moving to Cincinnati, Theresa was a faithful member at Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church in Akron under Bishop Marc Neal, serving on the Usher Board and serving on the Scholarship Committee. After moving to Cincinnati, Theresa became a member of New Friendship Baptist Church. Theresa remained a member of the I.C.U.A. for many years while living in Akron and Cincinnati.
Our beloved Theresa departed this life peacefully, when she was called home to the Lord on Friday, November 22, 2019 with all her family remaining by her side. Theresa was loved, adored and cherished by many people in her professional life and her personal life, and will be truly missed by those who had the opportunity to know Theresa. However, we realize as believers in Jesus Christ, to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord, which shall bring comfort to all her loved ones.
Theresa leaves not to mourn, but to cherish her precious memories, her pride and joy, her beautiful family.
In 1969, Theresa married (Walter Reed Jr.) and from this union came two sons, Walter Reed III (Cheryl) and Eric Reed (Shawnte); and her adoption of her two daughters, ToniMarie Reed and Fantacy Reed whom joined the family in May of 2000. Theresa leaves behind seven grandchildren, Mariah Reed, Ekira Reed, Marissa Reed, Justin Fall, Erinn Reed, Marsalis Reed and Urron Reed; and a host of other relatives, nieces and nephews and many dear friends. Theresa leaves a legacy of strong morals, values, Christian beliefs and strong family values.
