Velma Arleah Washington

Velma Arleah Washington was born on June 18, 1976 to the union of the late William Sr. and Vivian Washington, in Cincinnati, Ohio. She departed this life on Saturday, July 8, 2019 at the age of 43 at The Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Velma grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio where she graduated from Woodward High School. She was the youngest of 18 children, eight brothers, Donnie, William Jr., Darryl, Kevin, Leonard, Michael, Darnell, Ronald and nine sisters, Angela, Darlena, Lacretia, Regina, Vera, Sandra, Brenda, Lisa and Rhonda.

Velma was a beautiful young woman, full of life. She loved to write poetry and she had a beautiful voice and loved to sing. She sang with her sisters and nieces in a group called Passion. Their first community performance show was at Wade Park, downtown on Wade Street. Velma could sing and had the biggest voice and she was bold with it. She always had a smile on her face and always found a way to become some-one’s friend. Velma loved to make people laugh with her real since of humor. Though she was small in stature, she could be a bit feisty. Her strength was immeasurable, she endured more than most, because of her love for family.  Velma loved God and she especially loved her children very much.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Brianna; her father, William Washington, Sr.; her mother, Vivian Washington; her grandparents, Pansy Lynn, Herman Washington, George and Clemmie Dewberry; her uncles, Herbert Washington, Carl Washington, Leon Washington, Harold Washington and George Dewberry; her aunts, Bernice Washington, Betty Tait, Ivy Harris, Virginia Holly, Charlotte Washington and Shirley Harris; one niece, Torrie A. Washington; one great-niece, one great-nephew and Javon Washington.

She leaves to cherish: her children – daughters, Marysha, Kristiana, Ariel, Amanda, Naomi, Tiera and Lee Ann, and her sons, Joshua and Marcus; her grandchildren; her brothers, Donnie (Pamela), William Jr., Darryl (Leah), Kevin, Leonard, Michael, Darnell (Amanda), Ronald, and her sisters, Angela Thompson (late Michael), Darlena Washington, Lacretia Broadus (Toby), Regina Sorrells (Derek), Vera Simmons (Eric), Sandra Washington, Brenda Washington Simpson (Johnnie, Sr.), Lisa Sanders (Antrion), and Rhonda Washington, and a host of family members, and friends.
