Vernetta Gail Stanton (nee Johnson) affectionately known as “Nett” was called home on December 6, 2019.
Vernetta was born in Cincinnati, Ohio June 28, 1953 the fourth of five children to the late Evelyn L. and James L. Johnson both of Cuba, Alabama.
Vernetta was very particular about her appearance and the cleanliness of her home. She never left the house with a hair or piece of clothing out of place, even if she was just going to the grocery store or the gym. Although she kept her home immaculate she was always willing to be a gracious host for family and friends. She opened her home for many celebrations of holidays.
While on this earth, Vernetta was a good and faithful servant. She was a member of the York Street United Methodist Church from birth until the time of her passing. She served in many capacities at York Street UMC. At the time of her passing she was a communion stewardess, a member of the United Methodist Women and on the Pastor Parish Committee. Of course, she was on the kitchen committee as part of the clean-up team.
Vernetta was educated in the Cincinnati Public Schools. Attending Garfield Elementary; Heinold Jr. High and graduating in 1971 from Aiken High School. She attended the University of Cincinnati receiving a BS in Education in 1976. She later continued her post education and received her Master of Education in 2002.
Vernetta was employed by Cincinnati Public School retiring after 35 years. She started at Taft High School teaching typing, later returning to U.C. to receive her certification to teach Elementary Science. She taught fourth through sixth grade Science. She taught Science at Rockdale Elementary until retirement.
Vernetta leaves to cherish her memory two sons,Stuart Keith Stanton, Dante Stanton (Khaleelah) and one daughter, Mecca Young, three sisters Lula (Harold) Shanks Canton, MI; Lynder (Alter) Boswell; Gwendolyn Dean; one brother, James (Gwendolyn) Johnson; five grandchildren; MeCale, Whitney, Andre, Aaron and Keith; four special nieces Tyra (Miles) Johnson, Stacey Johnson-Miller, Ebony (Anthony) Godwin , Stephanie (Maurice) Cooke, one nephew Harold D. (Kristen) Shanks and a dear friend, Ronna Edwards and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and loving friends
