Alfred McCoy Obituary

Alfred McCoy was born on December 13, 1931 to Willie and Lillie McCoy in Cincinnati, Ohio. He departed this life on Thursday, May 29, 2019 at Scarlet Oaks Retirement Rehabilitation Center.

Alfred was educated in the Cincinnati Public Schools, attending Oyler Junior High School and Woodward High School.

Alfred served his country proudly in the United States Navy during the Korean War from 1950-1954 on the USS Bairoko CVE-115.

He was employed at the V.A. Hospital as a Pulmonary Lab Technician from where he retired on January 2, 1998.

He attended Southern Baptist Church where he was ordained a Deacon and served in many capacities. Deacon McCoy was faithful and consistent in a number of ministries at Southern Baptist Church, two of which are his service as a Deacon and his service and Love as a Sunday School Teacher. Additionally, he has many years of service working as a Coordinator of the Youth Department of the Sunday School and participant in the Male Chorus, Chairperson of the Deacon Ministry and Coordinator of the Benevolent Fund. For over 55 years, Deacon McCoy has been a disciple who studies the word of God, serves and gives.

He was married to Ethel Ruth Spence on May 27, 1955. They celebrated their 64th Anniversary, two days before his passing. To this union, four children were born: Dietrick “Butch” McCoy, Alan B. McCoy, Sr., his lovely daughter, Audrey L. McCoy and Robert K. “Buddy” McCoy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Lillie McCoy; son, Robert McCoy; granddaughter, Jasmine Clark; sisters, Lynnette McCoy, Willa Mae Johnson and Parallee Stallworth; and a brother, Herbert McCoy.

He leaves to cherish his loving memories: his wife, Ethel McCoy; sister, Pearl (Johnny) Ellington of Cincinnati, OH; sister-in-law, Margaret Bradley of Nashville, TN; sons, Dietrick (Glenda) McCoy of Nashville, TN and Alan (Anita) McCoy of Cincinnati, OH; daughter, Audrey McCoy of Cincinnati, OH; grandchildren, Marquis Reed, Marisa Reed, Demetria Reed and Lolita (Tim) Beasley, all of Nashville, TN, Brooke (Daniel) Jackson, Alan (Sara) McCoy, Jr., Morgan McCoy and Rhyan McCoy, all of Cincinnati, OH and Robert McCoy, Jr. of Columbus, OH; cousin, Paul McCoy of Cincinnati, OH; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
