Obituary

Alfreda Carter Rachel was 1 of 11 children born on April 13, 1932, to the late Hence and Marietta Carter in Montgomery, Alabama. Her parents, 4 sisters and 4 brothers, all preceded her in death. Alfreda slept away into the arms of the Lord on Monday, April 24, 2023. She accepted Christ at an early age. She moved to Cincinnati, Ohio at the age of 15 years old. She graduated from Hughes High School. She met and married Thomas Rachel, and to this union, 7 children were born. Her husband and 4 child-ren preceded her in death.

Alfreda joined Assumption Parish Church of Cincinnati, Ohio. She was a member for many years, until she became ill. Alfreda worked for Jenning’s & Genny’s Boutique clothing store. She was a seamstress there. She also worked for Keebler’s Bakery, where she retired from in 1971. She loved cooking, baking cakes and loved feeding everyone, plus in her neighborhood. She loved sewing and making clothing for her children. She was very family-oriented. She was a very sweet, kind and giving person. No one was a stranger to her. She enjoyed talking to people on all levels in a very positive way. She enjoyed shopping and talking on the phone to her siblings, children, family, friends and neigh-bors. She was a loving, caring mother to all her children and grandchildren. She loved all of her family and friends. Our friends called her Mother Rachel! She had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh. She always enjoyed talking about the Lord and reading her Bible. She loved God, and encouraged all of her children to love God first and to have a personal relationship with him.

She leaves to cherish her memory: 2 brothers, Benny Hale (Linda) of Illinois and Lapawn Carter (Katherlyn) of Alabama; 1 sister-in-law, Reverlee Carter of California; 3 loving daughters, Vickie Borum, Quinesta Daniels (Harry) and Dimples R. Rachel and 1 step-daughter, Beverly West, all of Cincinnati, Ohio; 10 grandchildren, Jameel, Chris, Kiena, Sylvia (Harvey), Robert (Tiffany), John, MyDeja, Delores, Mynijah (Shahid) and Robert; 15 great-grandchild-ren; a host of nieces and nephews, family and friends; and 1 best friend, Ms. Doris Scott. Alfreda was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, aunt and a friend to all. She will truly be missed, but she leaves a great legacy and memories to family and friends.
