Anna Marie Hughes Obituary

On Wednesday morning, June 25, 2025, Anna Marie Hughes transitioned to her Heavenly home. Anna was a godly woman that loved the Lord, her family and relished her role in advocating for the cause of Christ. She sought to be an example of what it means to be in the “Army of the Lord” regardless of the personal cost and irrespective of her own desires. Anna was determined to walk in the faith until the very end!

Anna Marie Hughes was born on November 1, 1969, in Cincinnati, Ohio to Napoleon and Betty Jo Hughes. Anna attended Washburn Elementary, Porter Middle School, and Taft High School respectively. Having grown up in a Spirit-filled home that allowed for true engagement with the church, Anna was deeply involved in a multitude of ministries with an intense focus revolving around lifting her voice in praise and worship, while also endeavoring to preach “The Good News” to the lost. Anna was a life-long resident of the state, yet her passions opened doors for her to travel nationwide.

Anna received the Holy Ghost at the age of 16, was an Ordained Minister, and has been on the “Battlefield for the Lord” for close to 40 years!” Under the tutelage of our mother, the late Great Evangelist Betty Jo Hughes, Anna took to the personal work of ministering within the local prisons within the State of Ohio. As Vice-President of the Missionary Department at Greater Bethlehem Temple Apostolic Church, countless souls that were incarcerated heard the gospel, repented of their sins, confessed that Jesus Christ was Lord and became strong soldiers on behalf of our Heavenly Father.

Anna was an outgoing, yet humble person that sought a life of simplicity. Understanding that Godliness with contentment was great gain, she was comfortable living a life in complete devotion to God. Anna was the definition of a powerful prayer warrior and only heaven knows what a wonderful and eternal impact her efforts will yield. Her many years of faithful prayers in person, various phone calls, or the multiple prayer lines that she initiated will truly be beneficial to her family, friends and the world at large!

Anna was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her! Her journey on this earth was marked by compassion. The willingness to counsel with either a word from God or simply to be a shoulder to lean on were her trademark demonstrations of her faith. Her passing has left a void in the hearts of all of us that were blessed to glean from her life. Although her passage was sudden to some and a shock to others, it’s immensely comforting to know that “All things work TOGETHER for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to HIS purpose.” So, we ask that you remember Anna for the way her life was lived; with a flare for the faith and her determination founded upon accomplishing her divine mandate.

On a lighter note, if you knew Anna, you undoubtedly remember her infectious smile and overwhelming laughter! Regardless of the obstacles you were facing or the pressures of life that had attempted to overwhelm you, one story, one joke and the hearty laugh that you were presented with consistently, melted away the challenges that surfaced in your life. We often joked that Anna missed her call to be a comedian, yet she continuously applied her medicinal art via laughter.

Although Anna’s physical presence may no longer grace our lives, her spirit will continue to inspire and uplift us. We pray that her memory be a blessing and that we carry forth her legacy of love and compassion in all that we do! Anna’s relationships were distinctly genuine and varied across the board, so as we all continue to grieve the loss of a Sister, an Aunt, a Cousin, a Niece, an Evangelist, a Singer and a Prayer Warrior. I think it’s fair to say that WE ALL LOST A FRIEND!

Anna was preceded in death by our father, Napoleon Hughes, mother, Betty Jo Hughes and our oldest brother, Leon Hughes. She leaves to cherish her memory: three brothers, Mark, Ken and Rick (Keywaina) Hughes; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and many other family members and friends that will sadly miss her.
