Anthony Garcia Leonard, affectionately known as “Tony” and “Pops” was born to the late Edward V. Malone and Elsie Leonard on August 24, 1945.
He leaves one sister, Boogie and is preceded in death by sister, Carmen Leonard, brother Greg Smith, sister, Norma Malone and sister, Ziola.
Tony chose to serve his country and joined the Army at age 20, serving three years with most of his time in Germany. After his time in the military, he began his career at Queen City Metro. He joined the Queen City Metro softball team, which he played on for many years alongside teammates who became lifelong friends. Tony stayed with Metro until he retired.
Tony lived life to the fullest. He loved traveling. Some favorite destinations were Disney World, Bahamas, Cedar Point, Louisville, Buffalo, NY and Youngstown, which he frequented often due to strong family ties. Tony loved sports, football and baseball, which is the game he taught Ezell and lifelong friend, Samuel Weems. He never missed a game or moment to criticize.
He was a phenomenal father and grandfather who was always there to support. He always had a camera in hand. He captured and shared memories that will always be cherished by his family and friends.
Tony leaves to cherish his memory: five sons, Anthony “Tony” Cofer, Carlos Young, Lanell Collier, Christopher Jackson and Ezell Leonard (Donesha); 20 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.
