Audrey L. Woods Obituary

Audrey L. Woods was born to Howard E. and Leatitia L. Woods on February 12, 1959, in Cincinnati, OH. She transitioned from this life on Friday, April 18, 2025.

Audrey attended Cincinnati Public Schools, graduating from Walnut Hills High School in 1977. She attended the University of Cincinnati College of Arts and Science and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, 1981. While attending the University of Cincinnati, Audrey was a member of the United Black Association and the Concert Committee. May 3, 1980, she committed in ‘service to all mankind’ through becoming a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Omicron Chapter. Later in life, Audrey became a member of the graduate chapter – Phi Psi Omega Chapter. Audrey was involved in radio with WAIF – 88.3FM and was active with the Million Man March.

During her younger years, Audrey spent many years traveling with her family to visit relatives in Knoxville, TN. She enjoyed these trips and had wonderful memories of her extended family. Included in her fond memories are times spent with her older sister, Brenda Woods.

Audrey received the baptism of the Holy Ghost and worked faithfully at Truth Temple under the leadership of the late Mother Ellen Coleman. She later joined Beth Messiah Synagogue under the leadership of Rabbi Michael Wolf.

During her college years and after graduation, Audrey worked at Burke Marketing Research, later becoming a Research Manager. She later spent 25 years working at the United States Postal Service, at the Cincinnati Bulk Mail Center in Sharonville, OH. Audrey served as a proud member of the American Postal Workers Union, serving as a dedicated and outspoken Union Steward. She received various awards and acknowledgements for her long and dedicated service to the union.

She enjoyed cooking, researching Black History and reading. Many people didn’t know that Audrey spoke Latin fluently. She was supportive of Civil Rights, voting and others who participated in various protests in the city of Cincinnati and nationally. She has many fond memories of her conversations with Betty Daniels Rosemond, one of the freedom riders in the 1960s. Audrey, along with her sister Brenda, established The Woods Scholarship at the University of Cincinnati to assist African American Students. The sisters were recognized for efforts by the African American Cultural Center. Later, the sisters established I Want You Back, a committee that worked to reconnect a forgotten generation of students at UC Homecoming. Audrey actively participated in the Bootsy Collins Foundation and was a part of the Grooveminte Girls.

Audrey was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Leatitia Woods. She leaves to cherish her memories: her loving sister, Brenda I. Woods; her ‘extended brothers’ Joffrey Caldwell, Clarence Simms, Pastor Joey Ferguson and Bishop Jerome Spencer; along with a host of relatives and friends.
