Barbara Elliott Bracy

Barbara Elliott Bracy, born on January 5, 1936 in Portsmouth, Virginia, was called Home on May 7, 2025. She was a beloved wife to the late Raymond Bracy, Jr., mother to Cezanne and Raymond Bracy III and mother- in-law to Denise M. Bracy.

Barbara was an only child to Preston and Ruth Elliott of Portsmouth, Virginia. Her father, Preston worked for Virginia Gas and Electric Company, while Ruth was a housewife. Barbara was a great academic student, graduating with honors. After high school, Barbara attended Bennett College in North Carolina with a degree in Education.

In the summer of 1956, Barbara met a handsome sailor from Glendale, Ohio. The young couple dated for about a year, but her parents wanted her to focus more on her college education. Raymond asked for her hand in marriage and Barbara immediately accepted. Without their parents permission, on December 17, 1957, the young couple drove to North Carolina and were married by the justice of the peace.

In 1959, Raymond and Barbara moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, where they raised two children: Cezanne and Raymond III. Barbara became a dedicated Teacher with Cincinnati Public Schools, educating our youths. After retirement, she was still teaching our youth in private and summer programs.

Barbara was an active member at the Immanuel Lutheran Church for over 40 years. Barbara earned her Master’s degree in Education from Xavier University and and was an honorary member of Phi Delta Kappa sorority.
