Charlie Brown Obituary

Charlie Brown was born on April 29, 1937 in Ocilla, Georgia to the late Chafe Brown and Lorena Anderson Brown. He departed this life peacefully on December 16, 2025 after a lengthy illness. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Chuck Brown; granddaughter, Reign Blackwell; and his four siblings, Lizzie Reed, Magnolia Mitchell, Samuel Brown and Barbara Jean Brown.

The family moved to Cincinnati, Ohio when Charlie was five years old. He attended the Cincinnati Public Schools. After completing the 10th grade at Central High, he dropped out to seek work to help support the family.

Charlie was baptized at an early age under the leadership of Rev. G.W. Sangster at Revelation Missionary Baptist Church. Charlie restored his membership at Revelation in 1996 under the leadership of Rev. Robert Collins. Charlie was a member of the Trustee Board and he worked diligently in the church on many projects; he was one of the co-founders of RMBC present location and served on the Pulpit Committee in search for our new Pastor Kendall Washington, Sr.

Whereas Charlie was accepted and raised to the sublime degree of a Master Mason in 1988 and served in the Gothic Lodge No. 122.

Charlie, along with friends, the late Jon Sears and the late Johnnie Walker, was one of the founders of the Walker, Brown and Sears Annual Easter Sunday Easter Ball at the Convention Center for 10 years.

After working various jobs as a young man, Charlie landed a job working with his uncle, Clarence Anderson, where he learned the basics of carpet installation. After many years of working with many carpet stores around the city, Charlie attained a job with U.S. Miller Carpet Service where he learned the operation of being an entrepreneur. After several years passed, in 1966, Charlie decided to start his own carpet service working out of his home. A few years later, he was able to open his carpet store on Lincoln Avenue in Walnut Hills. In 1995, he purchased property on Reading Road in Bond Hill and became a complete floor covering business. His daughter, Kyetta saw a great need to leave the corporate world at AAA and joined the family carpet business. His late son, Chuck came back home from Austin, Texas to join the family business, along with his bonus son, Roderick Blackwell, who was his faithful installer that Charlie taught how to be one of the best installers, even after the business closed.

Charlie’s favorite things to do was watching sports, especially boxing and the Bengals game with his son-in-love, Mark who he loved like a son. Playing dominoes, traveling and working on the planning of their Anderson, Brown and Mitchell family reunions is him being the President over the committee.

Charlie was married to his first wife, the late Minnie (Penny) Brown and to this union was one child, Kyetta. He also fathered two other children, Chuck and Lynette.

Charlie was married to the love of his life, Roberta Smith Blackwell, in August 1990 and added to this family was three bonus children.

Charlie leaves to cherish his memory: his loving and devoted wife of 35 years, Roberta; his children – three devoted daughters, Kyetta Brown Arnold, Lynette (Rashun) Alexander and Rolanda (Mark) Young, and two sons, Roderick (Anna Blackwell), all of Cincinnati, OH and Robert (Cotina) Blackwel of Wildwood, FL; 29 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-love, Dorothy Ware  and Linda Thomas of Knoxville, TN, Leatha Aqeel of Nashville, TN, Shirley (Clarence) Irvin, Brenda (Charles) Chappel and Cora Davis, all of Cincinnati, OH; brothers-in-love, Harvey Smith, Lee Roy (Saundra) Carson, all of Cincinnati, OH, Joe Carson of St. Louis, MO and Anthony Germany of Columbia, SC; devoted goddaughter, Marie Peaches Moore;  and special friend of 60 years, Thomas Payne; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
