With hearts full of love and gratitude, the family of Clara Lucille Davis announces her peaceful passing on May 17, 2026, at the age of 94. Clara was a woman of deep faith, quiet strength, and boundless love — a devoted wife, a cherished mother, and a grandmother whose warmth touched everyone around her.
Clara was born on March 3, 1932, in Paris, Kentucky, to Dave and Easter Johnson, the fifth child among six brothers and sisters. When she was just five years old, the Johnson family made their way north to College Hill, Ohio — a community that would become the heart of Clara’s world for the rest of her life. She was preceded in death by all of her beloved siblings: Frances, Bruce, Mary Ellen, Harold, and Ottie Belle.
On September 8, 1951, Clara joined in holy matrimony with the love of her life, Rayford Davis, in College Hill, Ohio. Together they built a life rooted in faith, family, and togetherness. Rayford preceded Clara in death in 2011, yet the love they shared never left her. After more than six decades, she carried him in her heart every single day.
In 1958, Ray and Clara made another meaningful move — this time to a new community in Hamilton County called Hollydale. Clara became one of its original mothers, helping to shape the neighborhood from its earliest days. She was a foundational member of the Hollydale Homemakers, a group that would grow and evolve into the Hollydale Civic Association. For Clara, Hollydale was more than an address; it was a community she helped build, a place where families put down roots and grew together across generations. She carried deep pride in being one of those first families, and that spirit of belonging never left her.
Clara was the proud and devoted mother of three beloved children: Donna Davis Phillips, Kimberly Davis, and Claude Davis (Dorla). She poured herself into raising them with the same faith and care that defined everything she did.
To her grandchildren, Clara was simply “Granny” — and there was no greater title she held. She leaves behind five grandchildren who adored her: Devon Phillips, Adrian Davis, Bobby Phillips, Cheri Phillips, Anthony Gordon, and Andrew Bradley. She is also survived by a wonderful circle of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins spread across the country, each one a part of the wide, warm family she helped nurture.
Faith was the foundation of Clara’s life. She accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and carried that commitment with her always. She was a faithful member of Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church in College Hill, Ohio, before becoming a long-standing member of Bethel A.M.E. Church in Lockland, Ohio. At Bethel, she gave her voice and her service freely — as a devoted member of the choir and the stewardess board — sharing her gifts with her church family for many years.
Clara Lucille Davis lived a life of grace, love, and faithfulness. She leaves behind a legacy not just in the people who carry her name, but in every life she touched with her kindness. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
