Claudette Malone-Edwards Obituary

Claudette Malone Edwards, born on September 2, 1940, in Frank, West Virginia, was the eldest daughter of the late Frank and Geraldine Malone. The family later moved to Morgantown, West Virginia, where she was raised.

Claudette began her Christian journey at an early age in Morgantown, devoting herself to the Lord and serving as a Sunday School teacher. She continued her community outreach as a Girl Scout leader. After graduating from high school, she pursued her education in cosmetology.

On June 20, 1961, she married her childhood sweetheart, Dixon V. Edwards, Jr., in Morgantown, West Virginia. Early in their marriage, they relocated to Cincinnati, Ohio, where she began working as a cosmetologist.

In 1980, Claudette opened her own beauty salon, Claudette’s Hairworks, in College Hill, later relocating it to Northside, where it continues to thrive today. A deeply creative soul, Claudette expressed her talents through art and mastered various crafts, including crocheting, knit-ting, needlepoint, rug-making, and rope and string art. She also served as Co-Chairman of the College Hill Dance Ensemble.

Claudette was a proud member of Allen Temple A.M.E. Church, where she served on several boards and clubs. She was active in the Women’s Missionary Society, serving as Secretary and President, and was an Usher on the Women’s Usher Board Second Sunday Group. She also served as a Stewardess and was a member of the Jewelites, formerly the Jewel Circle, as well as the 20th Century Club. Additionally, she was a founding member of the Magnificents Couples Club, where she served as the club’s Treasurer.

She leaves to cherish her memory: her three children – daughter, Charisse Marie and two sons, Dixon Voldean III and Sean Calvin; grandchildren, Malaya Charisse Marie Edwards, James Maurice Wilson II and Accadia Corrina Ali Wilson; great-grandchildren, Taz’mon Wilson, LeVon Hopkins III and Phelan Christopher; along with a host of other grandchildren; her sisters, Dorothy Hawkins and Patricia Sudler; her church community; and many beloved family members and friends.
