Claudia Laverne Marshall was born on January 4, 1948, in Middletown, Ohio, to the late Ike and Emma Marshall. She was the second oldest of six children. Claudia transitioned peacefully on Friday, October 17, 2025, at the age of 77.
Claudia graduated from Middletown High School in 1966, where she met and later married John E. Burg, Sr. From this union, one son was born - John E. Burg, Jr. She later met and married Rodney T. Jones, and from this union, one daughter was born - Terra D. Jones.
Upon graduation, Claudia became the first Black employee at Barkley Electric. She later began working at Armco Steel while attending Central State University. After 36 years of dedicated service, she retired from AK Steel, having missed only one day of work during her entire career. Following retirement, she devoted her time to caring for her grandson, London.
Claudia was a strong, dedicated, and faithful member of United Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as Director of the Youth Department. Under her leadership, more than 40 young people participated in usher board, choir, drama, and educational programs within the church.
Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. She enjoyed cooking, watching the Tennis Channel and her daily soap operas. She loved and took great pride in supporting and celebrating her children and grandchildren in every endeavor.
Claudia also had a passion for shopping - especially for wigs, designer clothes, designer shoes, designer sunglasses, eyelashes, perfume, and gold jewelry. We often joked that she "paid most of the bills at Bath & Body Works."
She was preceded in death by her parents, Elgin (Ike) and Emma Marshall; two husbands, John E.Burg, Sr. and Rodney T. Jones; sisters, Iva Jean Brown and Jackie Anderson; brother-in-law, Frank Brown; sister-in-law, Diedre Marshall; brother-in-law, Charles Herndon; special sister-in-law, Sandra Thompson; and two nephews, Charles "Bumper" Herndon and Teray Damone Marshall.
