Coreane S. Jawwaad Obituary

On Tuesday, May 28, 1946 in Cincinnati, OH a beautiful baby girl was born to Cast and Delia Steel (nee Davis). She was named Coreane. Coreane was the sixth child of 10 siblings. Coreane was affectionately known as “Granny” to her children and grandchildren but also known as “Rene” by close relatives and friends. She accepted Christ at an early age and later became a member of Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church.

Granny graduated from Hughes High School in 1964, Cincinnati, OH. At the age of 20, she married the late Oliver Stowers (Jawwaad), Sr. and to that union was born three children. She worked over 30 years with the Federated Department Stores in the Ticketing Office until her retirement in 2014.

Granny was a very loving and caring person who loved to cook, her family favorites being homemade biscuits, 7 Up Cake, carrot cake, Spaghetti salad and London Broil just to name a few. Her famous fried fish did not skip a beat every Saturday night. She owned an abundance of cookbooks to which she would take recipes, tweak them and make them her own. Rene loved spending time with her immediate/extended family and friends. She loved to orchestrate family gatherings and attend family reunions. She was an avid bowler and won various trophies for her skills. She tended to many house plants, loved to watch Matlock, Murder She Wrote and she never failed to monitor the nightly Ohio Lottery drawings like clockwork.

On February 6, 2025, while at Evergreen Retirement Community, the Lord called HIS beloved Rene home at 78 years of age. She lived to see 14 grandchildren being born before being called into her eternal rest with family by her side. Our love and memories of her will remain forever.

Coreane was preceded in death by her husband, Oliver A. Jawwaad (Stowers); her parents, Cast and Delia Steel; her sisters, Minnie Melson, Carrie Adams, Charlotte Walker, Janie Hudson, Mary Hunter and Louella Pennington; and her one and only brother, Cast Steel, Jr.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories: her daughter, Carmen J. Jawwaad of Cincinnati, OH, son, Oliver A. Jawwaad II of Louisville, KY and the baby, Samee N. Jawwaad-Stowers (Sabrena) of Birmingham, AL; a stepdaughter, Bayyinah Edwards of Vermont; 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; two baby sisters, Castella Steel and Loretta Harris, affectionately known as Pookie; sister-in-law, Margaret Parks; brother-in-law, John Parks and Michael and Anita Harris, all of Cincinnati, OH; as well as a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, close relatives and friends.
