Cortney Lonez Canada was born on May 2, 1979 in Cincinnati, Ohio to the loving mother, Tina Canada and the late Charles (Corky) Sherman. Cortney attended high school in the early 1990’s.
Salvation was instilled in him at an early age. Cortney attended Bethlehem Temple Apostolic Pentecostal Church where he and his devoted mother both left there and attended Bethel #2 Apostolic Church, where he was baptized in Jesus name, at the age of 10, by the late Pastor James Smith. While attending church, Cortney performed in church plays, sang songs and rapped in the church’s Christmas plays.
He was a stylish man who loved to dress nice, humble, respectful, loving, caring, gentle, unforgettable, funny, funny, funny is what his family and friends will remember him as being — a comedian. He always made those who came around him laugh. His humorous ways came so natural. There were times when he wouldn’t even notice he said something funny until suddenly that person would burst out in laughter. Then he’ll go the extra mile and make you laugh even harder until you hit him and tell him to “stop boy!” Then he would break out the “everyone knows that dance move” with jerking the arms, or the dance while moving his little legs and stomping his feet and popping those loud fingers. Those moves would have your belly hurting, jaws tight from being so funny. At the end of those laughs, he’ll give you that crooked laugh and smile with a handshake. Then he’d make the next person laugh, that’s just who he was — a comedian at heart, our in home and local Martin Lawrence.
Cortney really loved those who loved him and would give his mother, siblings and children his last when he really could. He always wanted the best for his family and loved to see and hear about the positive in them as he’d gaze in deep thoughts.
Cortney was preceded in death by his grandparents, Gretchen Canada, Ester Sherman, Robert Sherman and father, Charles Sherman.
He leaves to cherish his memory: mom, Tina Canada; siblings, Tazona Gardner, Corisha Mills, Tameca Sherman, Shannon Sherman and Shree Ingram; children, Tyjae, Quartney, I’am (Chistian) and Kai; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Cortney will forever be in our memories and our hearts.
