Cynthia Unita Byrd

Cyndie “Unita” Byrd was born on September 26, 1955, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to the union of the late Mildred Marshall Byrd and William Albert Byrd.

Cyndie was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, August 8, 2026.

Cyndie accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at First Baptist Church of Hazelwood by the late Pastor Charles Pitts, Sr. Her faith remained an important part of her life and was reflected in the many ways she served others.

Cyndie was a proud graduate of Sycamore High School. She enjoyed playing softball and proudly played both shortstop and pitcher for a women’s softball league for many years. Her competitive spirit, determination, and love of the game were just a few of the qualities that made her unforgettable.

Cyndie was instrumental in the lives of many children through her role as a foster mother. She opened her heart and her home to children who needed love, care, guidance, and a safe place to call home. Her willingness to pour into the lives of others was a true reflection of her generous spirit.

After many years of dedicated service, Cyndie retired from General Electric (Evendale) in 2022.

Cyndie was a faithful member of Good News Baptist Church until her passing. She served in many capacities, including as a tither and giver, Trustee, Vacation Bible School teacher, choir member, usher, and member of the security team. And if you knew Cyndie, you knew she made sure everyone knew she was “packing!” Her bold personality and sense of humor could light up any room.

No matter what ministry was in need, Cyndie was always willing to step in and help. She served with a willing heart and never hesitated to lend a helping hand. Her presence, dedication, and love for her church family will be deeply missed.

Outside of church and work, Cyndie enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. She loved fishing, shopping, tending to her yard, completing household projects, and putting together puzzles. Christmas was her favorite holiday, and she especially enjoyed making special Christmas treats for her family and loved ones.

Cyndie was an avid Cincinnati Bengals fan and took great pride in cheering for her team. She was known for making the best coconut cake and loved hosting family gatherings, creating opportunities for everyone to come together, laugh, eat, and make memories.

She also had a creative spirit and enjoyed crafting and designing special T-shirts and apparel. She loved walking along the beach, feeling the sand beneath her feet, and enjoying the peacefulness of the water. She enjoyed traveling with her sisters and family to their summer home in Anniston, Alabama.

Cyndie leaves to cherish her beautiful memory her children: Jon (Josie), Nathan, Erin (Victor), and Morgan; her beloved granddaughters: Malahni “Loni,” Malayah “Layah,” Maddison “Maddy,” Penelope “Pippa,” and Annaliese “Annie”; her siblings: Gary (Fee), Jerome Byrd, Sr. (Brenda), and her only baby sister, Wilma (Keith); sisters-in-law: Donna Byrd and Jessa Byrd; special niece, Alisha Byrd; a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends.

She also leaves to cherish her memory her special friends Annette Taylor and Barbara Lewis; her very special “sister from another mother,” Diane Minor; and “Us’s husband,” Mr. Keith Showes.

Cyndie was preceded in death by her parents, Mildred Byrd and William Albert Byrd; six brothers, Albert, Richard, Billy, Kenneth, Ronald, and Edward; and four sisters, Joann Cain, Delores Cain, Donna Jean Byrd, and Ruthie Brewster; two sister in laws Audrey Byrd and CJ Byrd.

Cyndie “Unita” Byrd lived a life filled with faith, family, service, laughter, creativity, and love. Her bold personality, unforgettable charisma, generous heart, and willingness to help others left an imprint on everyone blessed to know her.

Though she has gone from our sight, the memories she created, the lives she touched, the laughter she shared, and the love she gave will remain forever embedded in our hearts.
