Danny Richards Hughes, 61, passed away on July 3, 2025, at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio, after a valiant six-week fight following a heart attack on May 21. He was surrounded by his family in his final moments.
Born July 19, 1963, in Kankakee, Illinois, Danny was the son of John and Patsy Hughes. Danny loved animals, delighted in Cubs baseball, and never turned down a good cup of coffee. He was immensely proud of his children and cherished being “Babu” to his grandkids — a role he wore with joy, patience, and an endless supply of hugs and laughs. Throughout his life, he embraced a range of roles — paramedic, truck driver, computer support technician, and medical coder — bringing dedication, humor, and humility to every one of them. His favorite role of all was being a father and grandfather.
Danny is survived by his son, Preston Hughes of Bloomington, IN; his daughter, Samantha (Travis) King of Dayton, OH, and three grandchildren: Hazel Hughes (9) and Harrison Hughes (7), and Lyla King (1); and his life-long partner and best friend, Brenda Hughes. He is also survived by his sister, Carol (John) McNelly; his brother, David (Amy)Hughes, and his sweet pup, Roxy.
