Darlene Walker Obituary

Darlene was gifted this life on December 15, 1951, to her father, Curtis White and mother, Donzella Burden White. At the age of 15, she confessed her life to Christ, January 20, 1966. The Lord called her home to be with Him on December 3, 2024. Raised by her grandmother, Carrie L. Farley, along with her sister, Barbara White Campbell-Cranford (Tyrone) in the West End, she attended 6th Street District Elementary, Bloom Jr. High School and Taft High School. While attending high school, she got an early start at independence by working at her family’s restaurant, “Old Southern Restaurant”, where she met the love of her life and soon to be husband, Willie Herman Walker. The year 1971 proved to be a busy one for the 19 year old, being she proudly became a mother to her daughter, Atha Walker, a wife and a high school graduate all before reaching the age of 20. On June 18, 1981, she was blessed with a second daughter, Tequila Michelle Walker, who was sadly called home one day after birth.

After leaving “Old Southern Restaurant” in the early 80’s, she continued to show her compassion for others by working at Deaconess Hospital as a transportation aid in the radiology department. While working there, she was blessed with the title of “Grandma” when her only daughter had her first son, Demaris in March of 1990. After completing her more than 10 year career at Deaconess, she continued to show her caring nature by being a home childcare provider in the West End, where she cared for many. After watching many of her daycare children grow up, she started to work at Meyer Tool where she made and inspected aircraft parts, now caring for those in the sky.

The turn of the century came with a rough start with her losing the love of her life, “Her Will”. Though this was a loss of tremendous value, that made life feel dark, her

days were quickly brightened by the gifts of two additional grandchildren, Keyvin born in March of 2001 and James born in August of 2003. She was later blessed with the gift of a great-granddaughter, Lamara born in August of 2007. After working at Meyer Tool for more than 10 years, she decided it was time to take a break and chose to retire. Shortly after retiring, she found happiness by working her dream retirement job, as a people greeter at Walmart where she became a mother, grandmother, aunt and sister to many!

INTERESTS

Darlene was the life of the party; she was a social butterfly! She loved to plant, watch TV, cook, decorate, shop, dress, style others, play cards and she loved dancing and music! Some of the places that she frequented for fun were Queen Anne, Black Beer Lot, Trotters and lastly, Elmore’s Café where she was loved by many.

Her main interest was the well-being of her family; things such as shopping for her great grand-pup, buying Hello Kitty everything for Lamara, having morning coffee with Atha while watching shows of common interest, insisting she’d take James to Rue 21 every time his check would post, decorating Keyvin’s apartment unprovoked and making greens for Demaris.

Darlene leaves behind: her beloved daughter, Atha; three grandsons, Demaris.
