David Lee Thompson Obituary

David Lee Thompson was born in Newton, Mississippi to the late Clifton and Lillie Thompson. He was the sixth of the Thompson’s seven children. Preceding him in death are his two sisters, Mattie Pearl and Wilma Copeland; two brothers, James Clifton Thompson and Willie Clyde Thompson; and his beloved grandson, Gregory Carradine Thompson on November 20, 2021 at the age of 18.

At a young age, David Thompson joined Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Newton, Mississippi where his father was ordained a Deacon and his mother was a longtime Sunday School Teacher. He received his high school diploma from Newton Vocational High School.

Growing up in Newton, David worked with his father in his Plumbing and Septic business. He said that his father worked him too hard. He had lots of funny and crazy stories to tell about that time in his life.

As a young man, David decided to join his aunts and cousins in Detroit, Michigan. While in Detroit, he worked briefly for the Ford Motor Company.

Shortly after moving to Cincinnati, Ohio where his sister, Wilma was residing, he started his own trucking, towing, hauling and auto parts business. David was married to Angela Sandra Thompson on October 12, 1974, in Cincinnati, Ohio.

David was an excellent mechanic who enjoyed working on vehicles. He was the proud owner of numerous cars, trucks and motorcycles. A free spirit, he was determined to forge his own path in life. He was well-known as “Junk Yard Dave” in the valley area and had lots of friends and acquaintances. He liked various forms of entertainment which included gaming, football and fishing. He played Semi-Pro Football with the Cincinnati Jets. On September 29, 2021, David and his other 1984 teammates were inducted into the “Cincinnati Semi-Pro Hall of Fame.”

David passed from earth to glory on Sunday, November 13, 2022 at Hospice of Cincinnati, in Blue Ash, Ohio.

He leaves to cherish his memory: a loving wife, Angela Thompson; a daughter, Jennae Thompson and son, Dante Hardy; a sister, Rosie T. Caraway; a brother, Johnson Marvin Thompson of Newton, Mississippi; five nieces, Marlene Pugh, Lillie Thorton, Melanie Donald, Tracey Rigsby and Rhonda Gardener of Mississippi; one nephew, James Kevin Copeland of Cincinnati; a sister-in-law, Patricia Foster of Cincinnati; two brothers-in-law, Warren Foster of Cincinnati and Alvin Foster (Lydia) of Boston, Massachusetts; his Detroit, Michigan cousins, Gwen Johnson, Marilyn Horne, Joyce Duckworth, Brian and Patricia Didlake; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He will forever be missed!
