Walter Paschal Maupin, Sr. was born on December 19, 1941 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Jesse Louise Maupin and James “Popeye” Maupin. Walter was the first son and third of nine children. At an early age, Walter took the responsibility of care for his family. His steadfastness and tireless effort to make sure his mother and siblings were provided for was his top priority throughout his life.
Walter loved antiques, fine arts and photography. This love was homed in by working for Aronoff Antiques and Closson’s Fine Furnishings which he collected and sold. His passion for antiques gave him extensive knowledge to appreciate their value. Walter had numerous entrepreneurial ventures which included working with Dean Frazier with Blow-Out Comb and the Black Man’s Razor. He taught himself renovation and construction skills that led him to start his own construction company. During that time, he built a nursing home and then went on to rehab many homes through the Neighborhood Housing Program. Walter worked close to 30 years in the construction trade.
Walter was a lover of music and live bands. He sang with God’s Earth With Love and The Gospel Mellonetts.
Walter accepted Christ as a young adult and life took Walter on many different journeys. However, his love for God and God’s word brought him back into the fold which led him
to becoming a Deacon at New Friendship Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. H.L. Harvey. The next season of Walter’s life ushered in a hunger and thirst for God’s word and attending Bible Study regularly. He was a dedicated and faithful member of New Friend-ship Baptist Church, working diligently and faithfully on any task he was given, until his health declined.
On September 3, 2025, the Lord called Walter home and he passed away peacefully at home with his beautiful, loving and caring wife, Angie at his side. Walter is survived by: his loving and devoted wife of 36 years, Angela (nee Davis); his son, Walter Jr. (Tracy); 2 grandsons, Ryan and Brandon; 6 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Heron Maupin and Minister James Johnson (Nichole); 5 sisters, Janice Parker of Colorado Springs, Mary Ann Stinson, Dianna Richard (Charles), Ivy Gray and Filson Webber, all of Cincinnati, Ohio; and a host of nephews, nieces, close friends and family.
