DEBORAH BOHANNON-THOMPSON
Today, we have gathered to celebrate the life of Deborah Bohannon-Thompson, to ensure that her memory and legacy lives on in our hearts. Deborah was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on December 20, 1950 to the union of Richard Bohannon, Sr. and Patricia Ann Bohannon.
The eldest child, Deborah secured a position at Children’s Hospital where she worked with children with disabilities for 25 years. She really enjoyed her tenure there. She continued in a career working with children and families by opening Debbie’s Daycare in 1993.
Deborah was a talented and gifted woman. She created a variety of crafts and made story time fun for the entire family. Some of her gifts included the act of helping others (services) and a special knack for creativity. She would host teas at her home for all the sisters at the church. They could stop by any time of day and drink various teas from around the world — in addition to desserts and light dishes.
She, along with her sisters and mother (Mother Hill) would cook after service at the old Bethlehem Temple Apostolic Church when it was on Elm Street in downtown Cincinnati, Ohio. The late Bishop Johnson would announce with excitement, “The Bohannon and Hill families have the kitchen tonight!”
Deborah would help with weddings. She would create beautiful floral bouquets and centerpieces. She enjoyed supplying gifts for the Mother’s Board, for Christmas and other events. She was a great support to any auxiliary or committee. She loved cooking new recipes from all over the world.
Deborah experienced baptism in the Name of Jesus. In addition, she became filled with the gift of the Holy Ghost at a young age. She received this blessing at Bethlehem Temple Apostolic Church under the leadership of the late Bishop Elzie W. Young.
Deborah loved traveling and shopping. She visited places like New York, Chicago and Germany, to name a few. Every place she traveled to, she always brought hats, clothes, shoes and something for her home. She stayed in Germany one summer, along with Shirley and Elder Buck. They found a church for her son, Lamont and Nay to attend. She also loved to visit her son, Stevie on many Thanksgiving holidays when he lived in North Carolina.
In 2023, she moved to her new home in Romulus, Michigan where she continued to serve. She diligently helped support the work at True Holiness Apostolic Church. Deborah helped with the furniture for the church. She attended Sunday School and Morning Services — preparing dinner on some Sundays after church.
Deborah was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Patricia Bohannon; her husband, Rufus Thompson; a son, Stevie Bohannon; her siblings, (three brothers) Jeremy Bohannon, Richard Bohannon, Curtis Isaiah Hill III and (three sisters), Linda Bohannon, Patricia Ann Jones- Williams and Regina Lee Mullins; and one granddaughter, Nitassia Marie Bohannon.
Her loving son, Lamont E. Bohannon, Sr. (Eleanor), Erin N. Pierre (Justin), Lamont E. Bohannon, Jr. (Rachel), her brother, Ira Keith Bohannon, her sister, Marie Rainey, and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins will cherish Deborah’s memory.
