Delores Coster Obituary

In Loving Memory of Delores Coster

It all began on Saturday, November 12, 1938, when God blessed the world with a truly one-of-a-kind woman, Delores (Cornell) Coster. Born to the late George Sanford Cornell and Ethel (Colvard) Cornell Anderson. Delores would spend her life making the world brighter through her love, strength, generosity, and unwavering faith.

Delores was the eldest of five children: George "Mickey" Cornell, Betty Jean (Cornell) Deramus Clark, Diane Gatewood (Anderson), and David "Butch" Anderson. From an early age, she was introduced to Christ and developed a lifelong devotion to her faith.

She was a loyal and dedicated member of Second Corinthian Baptist Church, where many of her family members worshipped and where her uncles faithfully served as leaders and deacons under the leadership of Richard Hardy Sr. Her faith remained a guiding force throughout her life.

Delores graduated from Taft High School and briefly attended the University of Cincinnati. At the tender age of five, she met the man who would become the love of her life, Richard Coster. Their love story blossomed through the years, and they were united in marriage in 1959. They remained devoted to one another until death. Yet even physical death could not separate their bond, for their souls remain forever intertwined, untouched by its reach.

From their loving union came three children: Stephen Richard Coster, David Allen Coster, and Lisa Darlene Smith (Anthony). Delores also leaves a cherished legacy through her grandchildren: Stephen, John, Telyn, Jessica, David, Christopher, Robert, and Andrew, as well as her beloved great-grandchildren. Delores had a passion for retail and spent much of her professional life as a top salesperson for both Macys and Dillards, retiring after years of dedicated service and success. Never one to remain idle, she also devoted herself to community and civic organizations. She was a proud member of the Ohio Grand Chapter of the Order of he Eastern Star, serving as Worthy Matron at Windham Hall/Prince Hall Grand Lodge. In recognition of her commitment to promoting tolerance and combating hatred, her name was added to the Wall of Tolerance in Montgomery, Alabama.

Those left to cherish her memory include her devoted husband, her children, siblings, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, church family, work family, and dear friends.

Delores never met a stranger. She was beloved by many, known for being generous, compassionate, and kind, while also possessing a firm, no-nonsense spirit. To know her was truly to love her.

As the real-life energizer she was, Delores, affectionately known as "D" by her husband, practiced what she preached. She believed that when you look good, you feel good, and she carried herself with grace, confidence, and unmistakable style. Always dressed to impress, she embraced life with enthusiasm, staying active, engaged, and connected to those she loved.

Her heart was always with her people. Whenever someone was in need, Delores was there with a helping hand, a word of encouragement, or a listening ear. She was eccentric, fiercely independent, free-spirited, and unapologetically herself. Her husband lovingly described her as a real-life Auntie Mame a fitting tribute to her vibrant personality, adventurous spirit, and boundless love for life.

Delores legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched. She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered.

Matthew 5:4 NIV
