Derrick Johnson Obituary

Derrick D. Johnson was born in Lexington, Kentucky on January 27, 1963 to the late George Jackson and Arlene Johnson.  His mother relocated to Cincinnati, Ohio where he was raised and lived the remainder of his life.  At the age of 6 he was accidently hit by a car, dragging him over 150 ft. with the expectation of having only 1 to 5 days to live.  He sustained life altering injuring.  Despite what the doctors said, he proved to be a miracle.  He received special education and was able to complete through 10th grade.

At an early age, Derrick received Christ as his Lord and Savior, maintaining his trust and amazing faith in God throughout his journey.

He had a passion for dogs and they really listed to him, even the dogs whom he did not know.

Derrick has a big heart for his family, friends and strangers.  There was nothing he would not have done.  He went above and beyond for everyone.

Throughout his life he worked various jobs, starting at the age of 11 he sold shopping bags at Finlay Market, giving his earnings to his mother to help out the household.  He also helped the elderly and disabled individuals; cleaning, carrying groceries and doing moving jobs.  Although being disabled himself he was often a one man machine.  Always smiling, never complaining even at times when he was being taken advantage of.  We are truly going to miss him.  He was our family hero as well as the neighborhood hero.

He was preceded in death by both his parents, brother, Delano Johnson and the love of his life, Roxanne Bernie.

He leaves to cherish his memory, step-father, Willie Brown; special father, Curtis Todd; sisters, Rochelle McNeal Byrd (Dale), Lavonnia and Angela Taylor; brothers, Kevin L. Jones (Shelley), Kellen Brown (Jasmine); special brother, Sean Gray and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and friends.
