Derrick A. Clay Obituary

Reflections of A Blessed Life

Derrick A Clay was born March 31, 1958 to the loving Georgetta Jones and John Jones.  Rick as he was passionately called grew up in the family community of East End, in a loving home with his mother and two sisters.

Rick was educated in Cincinnati Public Schools.  Rick dedicated many years at WCIN Radio Station in Cincinnati, where he worked with some phenomenal people and have remained lifelong friends with several of them.  After retirement Rick worked a part-time job with First Student Transportation.  He loved this job and the relationships he developed with his coworkers.

Rick enjoyed roller skating since his youth, skating at the Carbon in East End.  This enjoyment continued into his adult life, where you could find Rick with family and friends at various skating rinks.  Rick also had a passion for fishing.  His most recent enjoyment was caring for, by way of a bird feeder, the hummingbirds that flew around his balcony.

Rick accepted Christ and was baptized at the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church.  Here he labored faithfully until his health yielded him from attending in person.  Rick loved the Lord, his church family and being taught the Word of God.  Rick was an active member of the Male Chorus.  Rick was a Christian of deep faith, and would often let it be known, even in the midst of his illness.

Rick was a family man.  He loved being with all his family, both immediate and extended.  He would travel in and out of town to spend time with family.  Rick was also a very special friend to many.

Rick’s life was well lived.  As Rick’s health began to decline, he was given an abundance of care from his love ones who showed up around the clock.  On the morning of Tuesday, September 30, 2025, Rick peacefully transitioned from this earthly life to be with the Lord.  His soul is at peace!

Throughout his life, Rick touched the hearts of all who knew him with his compassionate spirit and unwavering kindness.  He will forever be remembered for is positive outlook on life, his love for family, friends and people in general, his dependable and selfless nature, his great sense of humor, and his slow talking conversations.

Rick will be deeply missed, but his Legacy of Love, Compassion, and Kindness will be a lasting memory for all who knew and loved him.

Rick was preceded in death by his parents, Georgetta Jones and John Jones.

He leaves to cherish his Legacy, Love and Memories: sisters, Myra Sanders and Alberta (Troy Hoskins) Jones; nephews, Anthony Sanders, Michael (Laura) Sanders, and Kamaron (Tierra) Tevis; nieces, Aniece ‘Baby’ Jones and Kamiya Tevis; stepdaughters Tonya (Paul) McDole and Terri (Ronald) Young; Step-grandchildren Darrell Kindell, Da’Von Kindell, Dominique Sneed, Sasha Sneed, Zayrienne McGee, Miles Young, Zayden Young and a host of great nieces, great nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Our Dear Rick, may you Rest in Eternal Peace!
