Dolores Johnson

Dolores Priscilla Johnson was born on July 8, 1932 in Cincinnati, Ohio to her parents Frank Tribble, Sr. and Cheril Tribble, Sr.

She attended Madisonville Elementary School, and East Vocational High School, where she graduated.

She was married to the late Bernie W. Johnson on July 12, 1958 who lovingly called her Toots; they were married for 58 years, prior to his death.  To this union six children were born.

Dolores worked in factories, as a domestic worker for a private family, and as a seamstress. But her primary role was as a wife and mother.

As a devoted member of Gaines United Methodist Church for 90 years, she was a member of Women’s Society of Christian Service (Women of Faith), she sang soprano in the Young Adult, Choral Society, and Unity Choirs, Prime Timers, Mission Team. She attended Sunday School and Bible Study until her health began to fail.

Her reputation as a talented seamstress led many to seek her to create ensembles for special events, including wedding gowns. She also loved sewing for her family and quilting.

In addition to sewing, Dolores loved to cook, listen to music, dance, and spend time with her family. She often said her crown in glory was her children but especially her grand kids.

She leaves to cherish her memory six children; Jana Johnson, Bernard (Victoria) Johnson, Mark (Mark W.) Johnson, Courtland (Shirley) Johnson, Sheri (Leslie) Johnson-Strodes, Amy (Curnell) Graham; sisters Mary Louise Casey, and Cheril Tribble, Jr.; sister-in-law, Aline Hunley; six grandchildren; Amber Johnson, Matthew Johnson, Darius Johnson, Adam Johnson, Shianne Johnson-Strodes, Micah Strodes, 11 great grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends.
