Donnell Payne Obituary

A loving father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Donnell Payne passed away on September 10, leaving behind a family united by the love and values he instilled in them.

Born on July 14, 1963, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to the late LaVern Payne Sr. and Myrtle Payne, Donnell lived a life centered on family, friendship, and love.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Gwennetta Payne; his children, Rio, LaRonne, and Donnise; his parents; and his siblings, Arthelene, Sharon, and Wayne.

Born and raised in Cincinnati, Donnell attended Taft High School and was known for his strong work ethic and passion for restoring homes. He believed in the importance of family and showed his love through his actions, always being present when he was needed most. Donnell had a lifelong love of martial arts and was an avid fan of Bruce Lee and Sonny Chiba, earning the nickname "King Warrior EL." He also enjoyed music (Anita Baker and Stephanie Mills were his favs), basketball, football, and the annual family Turkey Bowl tradition.

Donnell was the self-proclaimed “King” of grilling. One of his greatest joys was cooking for family and friends. Whether preparing a homecooked meal or standing proudly at the grill, he brought people together through food, laughter, and conversation. He was always ready to share advice, check in on loved ones, and lend a helping hand.

He leaves behind a legacy of love through his children: William, Shena, Martez (Kijuana), Kellen, Qawi,Twinise, Tina, Ziyonn, Precious, Kourtney, G, and Aaron. He was the proud grandfather of 50 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers LaVern Jr., Michael (Cynthia), Johnny (Sonja), and Antwan (Kim); his sisters Brenda (Rick) and Zina (Andre); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. Special lifelong friends include Shamiya, Neal Famble, Rick McCoy, Bradley, Buster Brown, and Stanley.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Sarrah, his beloved daughter in-law, for the love, care, and devotion she showed Donnell throughout the years. Donnell will be remembered for his strength, humor, generosity, and unwavering love for his family. His presence brought comfort and security to those around him, and his memory will live on through the countless lives he touched and the legacy of love he leaves behind.
