Dorothy Ann Billups-Matthews Obituary

Dorothy Ann Billups-Matthews was born on September 5, 1958, to the late Queen Ester Chambers and George Billups and she was one of seven children. She is survived by Andrew (Barbara) Beck, Sharon Candida and Minister Kenneth (Sharon) Jones. Dorothy is preceded by Minnie (Phil) Jasper, Deborah Bass, and Jacqueline Cumberland.

At the age of nine, Dorothy dedicated her life to Jesus Christ and became a member of Trinity Missionary Baptist Church in Madisonville, OH. She was especially devoted to attending Sunday School. She cherished her relationship with God and remained a faithful member until her transition on Saturday, August 8, 2026. Dorothy was gifted with a natural spirit of caring for others. She never wanted to see anyone in need and was known for giving freely. She had a heart that made room for others and a generosity that could not be measured.

Dorothy was a woman who valued education and dedicated herself to serving others. She graduated from Withrow High School class of 1976 and continued her education by obtaining a master’s degree in criminal justice from The University of Cincinnati. She served for many years as a Probation/Parole Officer with the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department and later retired due to her health. Her desire to make an impact on lives did not end there, after high school Dorothy also served as a substitute teacher within the Cincinnati Public School District. Her work as a Counselor at The Cincinnati Hillcrest Academy echoed through the halls. Through each of these roles, she continued to use her knowledge, compassion, and life experiences to impact others. Dorothy also had a true enthusiasm for fashion. She loved dressing well, looking good, and expressing herself through her style. That passion led her to work as a Retail Associate at Lane Bryant, where her love for fashion and helping others could shine.

Dorothy was a woman of great strength. She was bold, strong-minded, and unapologetically herself. She was never afraid to express how she felt and would tell you exactly what was on her mind. That boldness was part of her charm. Beneath her strong personality was a pure heart filled with love and genuine concern for others. Throughout her life, she endured challenges with the understanding that God was her protector and source of strength. Her faith gave her courage when life became difficult and reminded her that she was never walking alone.

She stood strong. She fought her battles with courage, loved deeply, spoke boldly, and trusted God through it all. Her favorite color was green, and it seems fitting that the Lord has now called her home to rest in green pastures. She has no more worries and no more pain. The woman who spent her life caring for others can now rest in the arms of the God she faithfully served.

Dorothy did not have any biological children but throughout the years, she had several dogs whom she lovingly called her ‘babies’. Her compassion extended beyond people and reflected the tender and caring heart that God had given her.

Although she has departed from this earthly life, her presence will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. The memories she created, the lives she touched, and the love she freely gave will continue to live on through her family and friends. She leaves to cherish her memory; her dog Smokey; siblings, brother-in-law, a host of beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, extended family members, and beloved friends.

Until we meet again, Dorothy. You are loved. You are missed and you will never be forgotten. Love, Your Family
