Douglas Kirkland Obituary

I must work the works of Him that sent me, while it is day:

The night cometh when no man can work. (John 9:4)

DouglasDougKirkland was born on December 22, 1966 in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late Robert Kirkland and Lestina Kirkland-Freeman (Odell). Doug was the youngest sibiling. He is preceded in death by his father; two step-sisters, Diana Davis Israel and Betty Davis-Hardin,his maternal grandparents, Rev. Henry and Mattie Lewis, his uncle Rev. Brenston Lewis, his aunt Darnell Lewis-Jackson and his cousins, Keith Copeland, Dante Lewis and Brenston Lewis, Jr.

At an early age he received Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at the Mt. Olive Baptist Church where he was baptized by the late Pastor J.R. Barron.

It was at Mt. Olive that he developed his love for humanity and spirit for serving others, having been an active member in the Youth Choir, the Junior Usher Board, the Young Davids, Sunday School, Prayer Meeting and Bible Study.

Doug graduated from Aiken High School in 1985 and was a proud member of the track and football teams.

After graduation he enlisted into the United States Marine Corps where he served his Country with honor and distinction as a 2512-A Field Wireman during his deployment in Desert Storm. Doug was Honorably discharged in 1993.

He was a State Certified EMT, held a Class A CDL license and graduated from the Urban League’s Job Readiness Program. Doug was employed as a truck driver for C.A. Threats and Sons, Inc.

Doug was a quiet, kind and loving man, he literally would not allow you to kill a fly as he believed that every living creature should be treated with dignity, love and respect. Doug loved his family. His mother, children and grandchildren were his pride and joy. Doug moved to Tampa, Florida in June 2005 with his then wife Michelle Kirkland but in 2017 returned toCincinnati to work, live with and care for his mother. Doug and Michelle remained life-long friends. While Doug loved watching NFL football he was without a doubt the biggest “PRINCE” fan in the world!

Early, Monday morning, October 29, 2018, the Lord called Doug home from labor to reward.

He leaves to his cherished memory: his fiancé Regina Renee Hill, his loving mother,Lestina “Mema” Freeman; his children, Myia Freeman-Guyton (Deon); Blake Stokes, Joshua Ryan Fisher and Alex Nicole Younger both of Florida; his siblings, Jerome Tuggle, Geraldine Davis, Cornelius “Carl” Lewis (Yolanda), Angela Johnson (John) of California, Marian Davis, Carolyn Davis and Robin Davis-Henderson; his grandchildren, Aryhanna Fowler, Reign Guyton, Makayla Stokes, Madisyn Stokes and Mason William Taylor of Florida; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
