Dr. James Howard Campbell Obituary

Dr. James Howard Campbell was born on April 27, 1972 in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was the youngest of two children born to Arimel Campbell and James Howard Brown. James, affectionately known to his family and close friends as “Slap”, was very inquisitive and intelligent from an early age. He was also a foodie who loved cookies and hamburgers. He was a Cub Scout during his elementary years and held his Scoutmaster in high esteem.
As a young man, he was quite the athlete. James would spend time playing different sports in his neighborhood. He was always described as smart and that proved to certainly be true throughout his life. He attended pre-school at Scheil Elementary, where he was a part of the Bi-Lingual English and Spanish Program. He attended Pleasant Ridge Elementary and Cincinnati Bi-Lingual Academy (C.B.A.). Those early educational institutions provided his education and understanding of Spanish as a second language.
James attended Walnut Hills High School in Cincinnati, OH. As a well-renowned educational institution, Walnut Hills continued to spark the life-long intellectual curio- sity within James. He played varsity football and continued his Spanish language educa- tion, earning AP credits in Spanish in the 10th grade. He earned his diploma in 1990. In addition to earning his diploma, James picked up the affectionate nickname, “Slap” from one of his classmates, and he gained some of his lifelong friendships.
In James’ early college years, he was more of a “social networking” major before he was a student when he began his higher education journey at the University of Cincinnati. Once he invested in his higher education, he became fully driven to pursue higher education and his intellectual curiosity became a lifetime endeavor to be educated in multi-disciplines and to be an educator of young people. James earned his Bachelor’s degree in Communication from the University of Cincinnati. He went on to earn his Master’s of Business Administration at Xavier University, and he earned his Ph.D. in Education from Miami University.
It was safe to say that James was quite the “conversationalist” as there was no topic that was foreign to him. He began his career in higher education working in Compliance in the Athletic Department at the University of Cincinnati. He blended his love to converse and education when he pursued a career in higher education as a Professor. He taught multiple courses at the University of Cincinnati, Cincinnati Christian University and Miami University. He loved to challenge individuals to explore subject matter and think critically. An avid traveler, James traveled to many places domestic and internationally, including a trip to Israel during one of his educational endeavors. Dr.
James Campbell also received a proclamation from the Mayor of Cincinnati to proclaim April 27th “Dr. James H. Campbell Day”.
Dr. James Howard Campbell leaves to cherish his memory: his sister, Vanessa Mackey (Kent); three nephews, Tony Campbell, Kenneth Campbell and Terell Campbell; his great niece, Tyonnah Campbell (Kay); a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and an extended family that includes students, godchildren, mentees and countless friends. James was preceded in death by his mom, Arimel Campbell and dad, James Brown.
Dr. James Campbell inspired many people. He was loved and respected by many people. James was a funny, introspective, philosophical and amazing human being. He lived an amazing life and touched many.
