Marshall Earl LaNier, Jr. was born on August 2, 1948, in Cincinnati, Ohio to the union of Marshall Earl and Mary Evelyn LaNier and was the oldest of three children. The family attended the United Methodist Church and Marshall was baptized by Rev. Wilbert Page.
Marshall grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio and graduated from Withrow High School. He furthered his education at Huston-Tillotson University where he earned a degree in Mathematics and also at the University of Cincinnati where he earned a degree in Computer Science. He was called to preach at an early age, then received his Theology training at Temple Bible College.
He attended St. Stephens Missionary Baptist Church under Rev. Floyd Brown. He then transitioned to Jerriel Missionary Baptist Church under Rev. Michael Mack. He was then called to pastor at Burlington Baptist Church in Burlington, Kentucky. He came back home to Jerriel Missionary Baptist Church. After many years of faithful membership, he moved his membership to Galilee. He ended up making New Friendship Baptist Church his home.
Marshall worked for the IRS for 30 plus years. While at the IRS, he was a member of AIMS, which is the Association for Improvement of Minorities in the IRS.
He decided that after many years that he would continue in his father’s legacy and pledge Kappa Alpha Psi, Inc., the Cincinnati Alumni Chapter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marshall Earl and Mary Evelyn LaNier; brother, Michael Edward LaNier; nephew, Barry Smith, Jr.; and grandson, Aaron Bonner.
He leaves to celebrate his life: his wife of 29 years, Otta B. LaNier; sister, Victoria LaNier Smith; son, Marshall Earl LaNier III; daughters, Andrea (Aaron) Lundy, Tysha (Robert) Parker, Robin (Gary-deceased) Waldon and Patricia Bonner; and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family and friends.
He was called Home on Thursday, August 11, 2022 after a long, hard fight.
