Eliza Mae Jackson was born on March 27, 1930, to Willie and Susie Jane Curry in Newbern, Alabama. She and her sister, Rina grew up in Marion, Alabama where she graduated from Lincoln High School.
Eliza gave her life to Christ at the age of 14 at Oak Brook Methodist Church in Marion, Alabama. She moved to Cincinnati, Ohio in 1952. Eliza worked in Cincinnati hospitals for approximately seven and a half years, Alder Sock Factory for five years, and finished her career at Fusite Electric Company, where she faithfully served for 30 years until her retirement in 1995.
Eliza joined Mt. Zion United Methodist Church on November 14, 1954, which later combined with Bond Hill St. Mark Church, resulting in New Vision United Methodist Church. Throughout the years, she remained active in the choir, Pantry Club, communion setup, and as a devoted member of Circle 3 and continued her membership at New Vision United Methodist Church where she attended as long as her health allowed. Eliza loved the Lord and her family deeply until the Lord called her home on January 7, 2026.
Eliza had a kind and gentle soul, shaped by the wisdom life had taught her. Her nickname, “Sister” was fitting, she never met a stranger and loved everyone she knew as family. She possessed qualities marked by tastefulness, simplicity, precision, and a rare ability to listen and share her life experiences. She was always willing to help others, even when it required personal sacrifice. After the passing of her sister, Rina Curry, 15 years ago, Eliza grew especially close to her grandchildren as she found herself living alone in the big white house. During this season of life, she embraced a younger perspective as her grandchildren encouraged her to try new experiences from train rides and vacations to hot pot dinners and family game nights. She continued her love of gardening and expanded it to berry and fruit picking with her great-grandchildren. Eliza was an avid reader, she cherished meaningful conversations, puzzles, games, and spending time watching television with the great-grandchildren. While living with family, she joyfully passed on her knowledge by teaching sewing and cooking, leaving behind skills, traditions and memories that will be treasured for generations.
Eliza was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Susie Curry, and her sister, Rina Curry.
Eliza leaves to cherish her memory: her son, Ronnie Allen Curry (Ronda); her grandchildren, Jason, Kristin (Dante), Erin (Kevin), Adrienne and Simone; her great-grandchildren, Brianna, Sierra, Alexander, Sidney, Madison, Caleb, Gabrielle, Isaiah, Jeremiah and Liu-Kai; along with a host of family members and friends.
