Ernest Herman Mays was born on November 3, 1947, in Cincinnati, Ohio. Ernest was the second oldest child to the late Edith and Herman Mays.
He had eight siblings and three of them preceded him in death Janet, Debbie and Stan and his daughter Michelle. It was late on Monday, January 19th with his siblings and daughter by his side that he heard the Lord call him home to rest.
Ernest was raised in Evanston and was educated in Cincinnati Public Schools. While growing up in Evanston he obtained two nick names Butch from the family and Fat Head from his friends. Butch had a trademark for wearing hats that were always cocked to the side. Wherever he went he always had a hat on.
Butch had a passion for playing pool. On many occasions you could catch him shooting pool with his brothers and nephews. He enjoyed listening to Motown music. He especially loved listening to The Temptations and Smokey Robinson. Butch had a rich love for his family and was always ready to tell some joke to make everyone laugh.
Butch was employed at Christ Hospital for over 30 years in the Environmental Service Department.
In 1986 Butch met and married the love of his life Hattie and they were married for 40 years.
Those left to cherish Butch’s memories are: His wife Hattie, his children Sydney Yisreal (Michael), Renee Mays, and Raymone Maxton, siblings: Kenneth (Beatrice), Gina Mauldin (Dwayne), Sharon, Vada, and Tony (Renee) Mays
His grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews
