Ernest Lee Stokes entered eternal rest on November 16, 2025, at the age of 79, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and generosity. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, he was the son of Bertha Gover and Ellison Jackson, and was lovingly raised by his great-aunt, Nancy Jackson. Ernest grew up in the West End, where he attended DePorres High School, later continuing his education at Central State University. His early upbringing and educational experiences shaped the strong, compassionate man he became.
Ernest was preceded in death by his parents, Bertha Gover and Ellison Jackson; his great-aunt and caregiver, Nancy Jackson; his beloved wife, Jacqueline Stokes; his brothers, Larry Jackson and Vincent Jackson; and his great-granddaughter, Rue Rancifer.
Ernest leaves to cherish his precious memory: his children, Valerie Toney, Tracie (Richard) Allen, Erica (Harold) Massie, Sheri Stokes, Floreice Coburn, and Lennard Coburn; his sisters, Caroll Warren and Sonja Harris; his grandchildren, Richard (Jamie) Allen III, Ashley Toney, Whitney (Jack) Smith, Ariel Crump, Jonathan (Hannah) Allen, Ariana Allen, Micah Allen, and Tenzail Stokes; one great-grandson, Jackson Smith, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who loved him dearly.
Throughout his career in Human Resources, Ernest was known for his professionalism, kindness, and warm sense of humor. He enjoyed all things sports especially cheering for the Cincinnati Bengals and spent many years participating in local bowling leagues. His quick wit, generous heart, and unwavering devotion to family and friends will be remembered always.
