Ethel Lee Thomas was born on November 9, 1933 in Evergreen, Alabama to Jimmie Lee Mahaffey and Annie Mae McInyte (Mahaffey). She came to Cincinnati at the age of 14.
She went to Woodward High School where she went on to be employed in the restaurant industry. She then went to Nursing School, landing a position as a Private Duty Nurse, where her illness (asthma) slowed her down and she had to retire.
Not ready for total retirement, she became a Teacher’s Assistant for the Cincinnati Public Schools.
Her husband, Mercer B. Thomas (deceased) left Mrs. E. Thomas a widow. She was also preceded in death by her son, James Mahaffey.
She leaves behind: five children, Deborah Mahaffey, Gwendolyn Chiles (Belser), Michael Chiles, Timothy Chiles and Annette Thomas (Johnson); 28 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 14 great-great-grandchildren, five nieces, eight nephews, six great nieces, three great nephews, and a host of other friends of the family.
Saying a special thank you to her two nieces, Donna Braswell of Sacramento, California and Shannetta Simon (Teresa) of Jemison, Alabama for the weekly calls to check on their Aunt Ethel.
