Flora Lee Grant was born on August 6, 1923, in Waterloo, South Carolina, the first child of QueenElla Anderson and Ed Ligon. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Larry Grant, her brother, Earl Anderson, and her sister, Sarah Anderson Ouzts, whom we rejoice to know she has now joined in her heavenly home.
From an early age, Flora was full of life, curious, and always eager to learn. As the oldest child, she developed a loving and nurturing spirit that would become one of the defining qualities of her life. Flora dearly loved her younger siblings and faithfully helped care for them, learning early the meaning of responsibility, compassion, and service to family.
Flora was raised in the church, where the foundation of her faith was firmly established. The promise she made to the Lord as a young girl became a lifelong commitment, and her faith remained her steady anchor through every season of life. She did not simply speak of her faith—she lived it through kindness, service, generosity, and the love she so freely gave to others.
A beautiful and generous spirit, Flora poured that same love into her own family. She shared her life with her husband, Larry Grant, and together they raised three daughters: Phyllis Barner, Linda Grant Foxx (Kenneth), and Elaine Harper (Robert). Flora was also preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Elaine, whose memory remained forever close to her heart.
Flora’s love for the Lord was beautifully expressed through her devotion to her church family at Greater Liberty Baptist Church, where she joined on December 12, 1965. For more than six decades, Greater Liberty remained an important part of her spiritual life, fellowship, and service. For many years, she faithfully lifted her voice in the Senior Choir, where her beautiful alto voice could be heard singing the hymns she loved so dearly. The great hymns of the church held a special place in Flora’s heart, and singing them was more than music to her—it was an expression of her faith, her joy, and her praise to God.
Her dedication to Greater Liberty extended far beyond the choir loft. Flora possessed a true servant’s heart and believed deeply in helping others wherever there was a need. Devoted to her faith and community, she cherished her time with the Bathe-it-in-Prayer Food Ministry, bringing comfort and meals to the sick and shut-in. Flora also found immersed joy, fellowship, and laughter traveling with The Satisfied Seniors, a ministry dedicated to uniting Christian retirees in faith, purpose, and fun.
Flora was a baker! She baked peach pies, apple pies, sweet potato pies, and cherry apple pies for the Treasure Seekers, a Men’s Ministry. Her husband, Larry Grant, was a longtime member, and oh, how the men loved her homemade pies!
Flora will also be remembered for the beautiful, infectious smile that carried warmth, a welcoming spirit, and joy. Her SMILE was a reflection of the woman she was, and that’s one thing the family will truly miss.
Flora leaves behind a family who was loved and blessed beyond measure. She leaves to cherish her precious memory her two daughters, her two son-in-laws, along with eight beloved grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and a host of extended family, relatives, and friends whose lives are richer because Flora was a part of them.
Her smile will remain in our memories.
Her love will remain in our hearts.
Her faith will remain in our foundation.
And her legacy will live on through every generation that follows.
“Well done, thou good and faithful servant, WELL DONE!” — Matthew 25:23
