Freddie Lee Hill, Sr. Obituary

Freddie Lee Hill, Sr. was born on October 1, 1933 in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late Gordon and Hester (Moore) Hill. He professed his hope in Jesus Christ at the age of 31 at Zion Hill Baptist church under the leadership of Reverend Temper. In 1993, he joined Jerriel Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Bishop Michael F. Mack. He was a dedicated church member and a faithful tither. In his spare time, he enjoyed reading the ‘Daily Bread’ and attending Noon Day Bible Study.

Freddie was educated through the Cincinnati Public School System and attended Central Vocational High School. He was an honest and hardworking man, and he wore many hats. He delivered ice and worked for Bob’s Furniture until he was hired at Duke Energy in 1958 (formally CG&E), where he worked as a Custodian. Throughout his career, he was promoted from working in the Powerhouse Coal Yard to working in the Underground Electric Division. After 34 years of hard work and dedication he retired from Duke Energy in 1992.

He married the love of his life, Betty Jean Montgomery (Hill) in 1955. To this union five sons were born.

Freddie was a kind and gentle soul. He was a true family man who enjoyed attending family reunions, family cookouts, and family vacations. He was the life of every party and enjoyed sharing jokes to make others laugh. He valued putting his family first. He would often unify his family and friends through preparing his famous and mouthwatering chicken salad, sweet potato pies, and his hearty chili recipes. His children, grandchildren, and loved ones knew him as “Pop”. Pop will be especially be remembered for his warm smile and his infinite wisdom. He was selfless, he was always willing to lend a helping hand, and he never came into contact with a stranger.

Our father departed from this life on Saturday October 31, 2020. He was preceded in death by both of his parents Gordon and Hester; his loving wife, Betty; his three sisters, Sarah, Bertha, Inez and his brother, Walter. He leaves to cherish in his memory: one sister-in-law, Sophia Montgomery; five sons, Freddie Jr. (Yvonne), Jeffrey (Teresa), Gary Sr. (Jenelle), Terrence Sr. (Doris) and Gregory Sr. (Jennifer); 13 grandchildren, Antaun, Stacy, Anthony, Alexandria, Aaron, Gary Jr., Terrence Jr., Taryn, Shanaya, Nicholas, Aaliyah, Kayla and Gregory Jr. He had nine great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, a multitude of nieces, nephews, extended relatives and close friends.
