George Lee Anderson was born July 22, 1936, in Harlan, Kentucky to the late Milden and Eunice Thornton Anderson. At the age of 83, George received his wings on Tuesday, March 3, 2020 at Mercy Hospital Anderson in Cincinnati, Ohio.
George graduated from Rosenwald High School in Harlan, Kentucky in the summer of 1954. He then enlisted in the United States Air Force on August 5, 1954. While in the service, he met Gwendolyn Smith and was blessed to become her husband on July 21, 1973. He continued his service with the USAF and made it into a career until he retired on September 1, 1976 with the rank of Master Sergeant. George then decided to move his family to Cincinnati, Ohio. He applied and was hired on at the United States Postal Service where he worked from January 1978 until his retirement in May 1998.
Outside of work, George enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He liked playing card games like Spades and Bid Whist. He was known for being able to tell you what everyone had left in their hands by the end of the game and slapping a winning card on his forehead just to rub it in that he won. He also enjoyed participating in bowling leagues and going on fishing trips. He was an avid sports fan and could sit and watch games on television all day long.
George accepted Christ and was baptized at New Mission Missionary Baptist Church in 2001. He served as a trustee, male chorus member, men’s ministry member and on the usher/greeter ministry. George was always on call to fix things at the church and enjoyed lending a helping hand to all until his health began to fail.
George was preceded in death by his parents, Milden and Eunice Anderson; his brothers, Henry and James Anderson;
