Geraldine “ Dean” South, 81, went home to be with the Lord on February 21st, 2026, peacefully at home with Family due to ongoing illness in which she fought like a warrior. Geraldine “Deanwas born on November 24th, 1944 in Powell County, Kentucky, daughter of the late Mark and Ollie Townsend.
Geraldine “Dean” was a matriarch. Devoted her life to her family, embracing her role as a hardworking and loving mother and grandmother with unwavering dedication. She made it her mission to uplift and care for those around her, always striving to make life better for others. A remarkable woman, she was admired for her strength, perseverance, and wisdom. Her guidance and steady spirit touched countless lives. The love she gave so freely has left lasting footprints on the hearts of all who knew her. She was deeply cherished and will be profoundly missed.
In addition to her parents, Geraldine was preceded in Death by Six brothers: James Townsend, Rodney Freeman Townsend, Alton Townsend, Johnny Ray Townsend, Eugene Townsend, and Ronald “Doc” Townsend; three sisters: Ruth Frazier, Joyce Caudill, and Lilly Townsend; first husband: Franklin Chambers; her two sons: Albert Chambers, and Dennis “Porky” Chambers; Grandsons: Allen Chambers and Shane Chambers.
Geraldine leaves behind many memories with her one brother: Alvin Townsend; two sisters: Callie Faught, and Juanita Charles; Sons: Samuel Chambers, Franklin “ Peanut” (Angela) Chambers, Randy Chambers; Daughter in laws, Tracy Chambers, Trish Chambers, and Dawn Vanover; Grandkids: Mandy (Matt) Ulbrich, Rachel ( Emily) Chambers, Kirstie (Shawn) Thompson, Syra (Caleb) Rose-Chambers, Cassidy (Nick) King-Chambers, Brittany Chambers, Austin Chambers; Great Grandkids: James (Raylen) Wallace, Jacob Wallace, Jordan Wallace, Kimbry Thompson, Maila Chambers, Tristan Chambers, Lyanna Chambers Olivia King, Eric Ulbrich, Willow Ulbrich; and one Great Great Granddaughter: Victoria Dean Wallace.
In addition, Geraldine is remembered by many extended family members and friends who will deeply miss her. Today appreciate the importance of both laughter and tears. We love the sound of laughter and the merriment of cheer, but our hearts would lose their tenderness if we never shed a tear.
