Gloria Mahaffey Obituary

Gloria Jackson Mahaffey spent her life as a living epistle showing Gods love to everyone. She was a phenomenal mother and a dedicated, supportive wife who walked in the purpose God had for her life. Gloria was born on January 6, 1946 in Savannah, GA to Troy and Fannie Jackson, and received Christ at an early age at Abbesinia Baptist Church.

Education was important to Gloria. She received her Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of Cincinnati in 1998 to provide better learning opportunities for the hundreds of children she taught while running the daycare center she owned, Kiddies Kingdom. Soon after Gloria was instrumental in restarting Sharon Hill Preschool and leading the Inspirational Baptist Church Multilevel Learning Center. Under her guidance, the learning center earned the Step to Quality Award. She retired (the first time) after a huge surprise retirement party from her family.

Gloria loved traveling and cruising with her husband, evident by their 20+ year diamond membership with Royal Caribbean. Holiday celebrations with family and annual family reunions were the highlights of her year, as well as spending time with family and friends.

Gloria was a selfless woman who saw the best in everyone and didn’t hesitate to push those she loved toward their purpose. She would often remind others to never stop trying, using the word ‘sticktuitness’ to encourage people to keep going. “If you believe you can achieve it.”

Gloria was proceeded in death by her parents Troy and Fannie Jackson, Siblings: Herman Jackson, Sally Ann Stanley, James Jackson. She is survived by: siblings Pearl Williams (Ranell), Harold Jackson (Lillian), Troy Jackson Jr (Katrina), and brother-in-law Leroy Stanley Sr.; her husband of 56 years James F. Mahaffey, and four children Renee Mahaffey Harris, Stephanie Jackson (Derwin), Jamie Mahaffey (Robyn), Shannon Salter (Michael); 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.

People who knew Gloria are confident God told her “Well done my good and faithful servant!” when she went home on August 8, 2020.
