Gregory Brown, Sr. Obituary

Gregory Brown, Sr. was born on September 2, 1956 to the late Leola McCurdy and Irvin Brooks. He was the seventh of 10 siblings, some of which have already preceded him. Greg was known to many as “Nick”, “Big Dawg” and “The Concrete Doctor”.

“DAD” Greg departed this life to go home to be with the good Lord from Drake/Vitas Hospice Center on Sunday, August 2, 2020. Greg had a close connection with Christ from an early age by attending Rockdale Baptist Church. He was raised by a grandmother that ensured he was familiar with God while raising him and his siblings.

Greg was a very hard working man. He had an unbreakable love for Concrete. There was not a wall he could Not build or tear down. There was Not a sidewalk or driveway that he could not form up and pour. He still attempted to do jobs while knowing his physical abilities were diminishing. Anything to provide for his wife and children.

Greg “DAD” was most known for his stylish appearance. Fashion was his thing when he took off his work clothes. There was NOT a colorful suit or outfit that intimidated him. His skin color, as dark as it was, never mattered. He stayed FRESH no mater the occasion. He also always offered a hint of advice. No matter the audience. Most times, you didn’t agree or like the advice, he told it regardless!

He leaves his legacy, memories and words of wisdom behind for his close loved ones. He preceded his beloved wife, Patricia Brown; his two children, Tiesha (Lady) Brown and Gregory (Little Greg/Lil Man) Brown, Jr.; six grandchildren, Aarian (Big A), Gregory III (Lil G), Kaniece (NeNe), De’mari’yah (Butt-Butt), Cyannah (Alex) and Gyannah (Harper); and one great-grandson, Osiris (Big O); and a host of relatives, close friends and in-laws.

Greg “DAD” fought his illness to the bitter end. God had mercy upon his health and it showed each time he went down, he bounced back. He never took the doctor’s word as final answer. There has been at least four times over the past six to eight years that the doctor’s said dad will die without dialysis. He fought and survived through 12 long years with his kidney failure/kidney disease.

No matter the task, Greg was always a push through type of guy. His personality alone kept the good times/ laughs rolling. There was never a dull moment when Greg was in your presence. He loved to say: “It is what it is” when he exhausted all options!!!
