Gwendolyn Smith was born on January 14, 1951 to the late Neil Smith, Jr. and Annie Gates in Chambers County, Alabama. She peacefully departed this earthly life, surrounded by family on December 24, 2024. She maintained her grace, compassion and love for family and friends, and expressed gratitude for her long life, full of wonderful experiences and memories.
Gwen graduated from Taft High School in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1970, before going on to becoming a Certified Nurse Assistant. She dedicated over 18 years of her career, to being a strong advocate for take care of patients with professionalism and compassion.
She was known for her open, kind and generous heart. Gwen cared for all people and dedicated her lifetime to helping family and friends. She always had a loving smile and ability to find something positive in any situation; always wanting to make people laugh and smile.
Gwen was preceded in death by her parents, Neil Smith, Jr. and Annie Gates; and her younger sister, Stacey Hocker.
She leave to cherish her memory; her daughter, VaShawna Embry-Hughes; siblings, Neil Smith III and Valerie Smith; her granddaughter, Rachel Hughes and great-granddaughter, Danyelle Saulsberry; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many other loving relatives and friends.
Gwendolyn will be dearly missed by all family and friends.
