Imojean Seniours-Galinger Obituary

The Queen Imojean Seniours-Galinger

The Queen, Hat diva, and sophisticated lady known as Imojean Seniours-Galinger was born December 22, 1946 to the late Walter and Lurene Smith. Through this union, Imojean was the third of six children. Imojean went home to be with the Lord on April 8, 2020.

Imojean was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio. She grew up downtown, attended Cincinnati Public Schools as a child, and graduated from Taft High School in 1965. She attended all her Taft class reunions and remained devoted to her friends.

Coming from a religious family, Imojean was a faithful church member from the womb. She attended Beulah Missionary Baptist Church and was a faithful member until the Lord called her home. She was baptized at an early age. She was in numerous ministries throughout her life. She was a candy striper, participated in all the choirs, sang in Women’s Chorus, Ministers’ Wives and served as the president of the Hospitality Ministry. While singing in the choir, one of her hit songs she would sing was “Already Been to the Water.” Her deep voice, her energetic spirit and enunciation of words reinforce the superstar that she already was! You knew she would be getting into the song when she would walk down those steps and bounced her shoulders. She would always be one of the first people you saw as you walked into the church, giving you that big smile. Imojean knew the Lord, and throughout her life it was shown!

Imojean was a spunky, classy, and fierce woman. She carried herself with pride and dignity. She was all she could be, as the Army phrase “be all you can be” says. She met a soldier at Union Terminal in Cincinnati by the name of Walter Seniours who blew her away.

She knew he was going to be her husband, and soon after Walter came back from being stationed in Germany, they married on January 7, 1967. They were the talk of the town! If you knew the Seniours, you knew they were some of the FINEST DRESSED COUPLE OF ALL TIME! They were married 33 years until Walter was called home to be with the Lord on August 28, 1999. With their union, Ronald and Sheronda were born.

Imojean’s style was the best of the best. From her church outfits to her church hats, she could dress from head to toe! Many people called her the “Queen of hats and fashion.” She was the very essence of the scripture of Proverbs 31:10-31, a virtuous woman. Her example of success and dressing successfully was passed down to her daughter, sisters, her family and friends. You made sure to look your best around Imojean.

Imojean retired after 40 years working for the IRS in Covington, Kentucky and she was also the cafeteria lunch lady at Princeton Junior High School for several years. She was a hard worker and loving coworker. Even in her retirement Imojean continued to serve her previous employer, the IRS, by being a part of the NARFE Chapter 265 until the Lord called her home. Imojean also loved traveling, especially after she retired. She traveled across the United States. It was her second love.

In October of 2009, Imojean married Steven Galinger, they enjoyed traveling and going to every single church event for 10 years!!! Steve would simply do whatever Imojean said. They loved each other and Steve took great care of Imojean.

Imojean will truly be missed, she loved her family, church, and everyone who was touched by her life. Her life was a living example of Ephesians 4:32 – “And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ.” She was preceded in death by her mother, Lurene, father, Walter, brother, Henderson Smith, Sr. and two sisters, Annetta Johnson and Irene Lee.

She leaves to cherish: her husband, Steven Galinger; twin brothers, Eugene Smith and younger brother, Lonnie Smith; two children, Ronald Seniours (Mary) of San Diego, CA and Sheronda Harris (Pete); 11 grand-children, Allen (Nicole), Matthew, Lamar, Todneesha, Aaron, Jaden, Drew, Aaron, Devon (Emily), Brianna and Joshua; eight great-grandchildren, Wesley, Wade, Margot, Dolph, Ayla, Judy, Na’ron and Royce; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and her best friend for 60 years, Etta Mae.

In the words of Imojean, “GOD’S GOT ME!” We will see you in the morning!
