Ira James Woods, 68, of Cincinnati, Ohio, passed away peacefully on October 8, 2024. He was born on January 10, 1956, in Cincinnati, to Thelma J. Harris and lived a life full of music, family and community.
Ira graduated from Withrow High School and pursued his passion for music at the University of Cincinnati’s Conservatory of Music, where he honed his skills in music reading and performance. His love for music was sparked at the age of 10 when his brother gifted him a guitar, leading him to a lifelong dedication to his craft. In 1988, he founded his own band, sharing his musical talents with the world.
His career was marked by hard work and commitment. In his younger years, Ira worked at Children’s Hospital, and later, he spent three decades (1988-2018) working for a local dry cleaners. Despite his busy schedule, he always made time for his music and community.
A devoted member of the Turning Point Church of Zion, Ira’s faith and friendships flourished throughout his life.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Annie (Peaches) Woods; his mother, Thelma J. Harris; and his beautiful dog, BooBoo.
Ira leaves behind a loving family who will cherish his memory: Ira Woods, Jr., Etta Mae Mays, Donita Woods, Eric Woods (Vivian), Tony Evans, Emmanuel Evans and Patricia Moore; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Ira will be remembered for his musical talents, gentle spirit and the joy he brought to those who knew him.
