James Henry "JB" Brown Obituary

James Henry Brown, fondly known as “JB”, was born September 15, 1957 in Shelbyville, Indiana and later raised in Cincinnati, Ohio. James was the third son to the late Edna Brown (Wilson) and Lawrence Brown. An Angel was dispatched to earth to escort “JB” back to his Heavenly Home as he transitioned from this life to his Eternal Home on January 19, 2024. James accepted Christ in 2001 and was baptized at Christ Emmanuel Christian Church and then became a member of Living God Church in February 2021 and was baptized again on September 19, 2021, where he participated in servicing the homeless community.

James attended and graduated from Woodward High School in 1977. Early in life, James developed a love for basketball as he earned his way on the varsity basketball team as a junior. After graduation, James enlisted and served proudly in the United States Army, where he received an honorable discharge in 1978. As part of James’ journey, he also received a certificate in Welding from Queen City Vocational. After working several odd jobs and wearing several hats, James developed an interest in cars and later pursued a career in sales with Jake Sweeney Chevrolet, where he became one of the top salesmen in Cincinnati. James worked for several years for Jake Sweeney and retired in 2006. James was a very quiet, soft-spoken person that worked very hard to provide for his family. When not working, James took the time to relax, where he found pleasure and enjoyed traveling, watching movies/sports, shopping and spending time with family and friends. James was a very friendly, good spirited man. He was a very loyal husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He had a spirit of servitude and always put others needs before his own. He selflessly and humbly gave up his free time and money to help others in need by feeding the homeless and also providing them with clothes and shoes. James was a spiritual man and loved his church, he attended faithfully and fought with all of his strength to attend service up until he passed away. James knew the word of God and was fearless, he had the faith of a mustard seed and never, ever wavered. James didn’t fear anything or anyone because he knew he was covered by the blood of Jesus.

James is preceded in death by his parents, Edna Brown (Nelson) and Lawrence Brown, Sr., and two brothers, Lawrence Brown and Joh Nelson. James is and will be deeply missed. He leaves to cherish his memory: his lovely wife, Christine Davis; his three children, Natalya Billings (daughter), Mylyn Butts (son) and Jasmine Tapplar (daughter); sister, Almaria Brown and brother, Nathan Brown; several grandchildren, Mylyn Butts, Jr. (grandson), Queen Tapplar (granddaughter), Skye Tappler (granddaughter), Melody Stone (granddaughter), Brody Tiernan (step-granddaughter), Amynah Hunter (step-granddaughter), Savanah Hunter, (step-granddaughter), Keniya and Kennia Dexter (step-granddaughters) and Frances Espy (step-granddaughter); Donay Tapplar (son-in-law), Richard Hunter II, Kenneth and Wendy Dexter (son-in-law and wife); Kenny Dexter, Jr. (grandson) and Dion Brison (grandson), as they were his pride and joy; and what he enjoyed most was spending time with his wife and grandchildren and his beloved family and friends.

JB’s last word to us here this morning is: “I’m built for this #teambrownoneluv!”
