“God’s Got Me. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You”
On Sunday, May 17, 2026 at Majestic Care Of Cedar Village in Mason, Ohio, God in His infinite wisdom, summoned Janet Elaine Anderson (nee Virgil), to her eternal resting place.
Janet (age 92), the second oldest of eight children, was born on July 28, 1933 to Robert M. Virgil, Jr. and Alma Liggins Virgil. She grew up in the West End of Cincinnati, Ohio and
graduated from Withrow High School.
Her dedication, devotion, love, and commitment to God and family took root at an early age. She was a lifelong member of Greater Liberty Baptist Church (Madisonville). This led to a lifetime of service and faithfulness until declining health prevented her from being an active participant. For many years, she was a Sunday School teacher and Vacation Bible School teacher. After her years of teaching, she became a member of the Women’s Sunday School Class. Through the years, Janet served on many church committees and in a plethora of auxiliaries and organizations which included (but were not limited to) the VBS Kitchen Crew, Easter Sunrise Breakfast Crew, the Bathe It In Prayer Ministry, the Bettie Cocrel Circle, the William Cox Club, and the Satisfied Seniors. For several years, she served as the Advisor for the Youth Usher Board. Her love of music motivated her to become a member of the Bells of Liberty Gospel Chorus (which included her sister, Alice Jean Williams, as the pianist, her sister Shirley Virgil Colemon, as the director, and other members of her musically talented family); she and her Virgil Family also sang occasionally for special church programs.
Janet also derived great pleasure from bowling in the church-sponsored bowling league, traveling to different parts of the country on church-sponsored trips, and vacationing with members of her family, also.
Throughout most of her adult life, Janet was a busy mom, working tirelessly to raise and provide for her four children and assist with her grandchildren whenever called upon. She volunteered as a Den Mother for her sons’ Cub Scout Troop and was a strong supporter of their sports activities and events as well as school events for all four of her children.
She had a tough, “no nonsense” exterior, but she had a fierce love for her family and took pride and joy in spending time with her children, grandchildren, siblings and extended family; she enjoyed sharing their accomplishments and achievements with others. Janet’s love, devotion, faithfulness, and caring for family, church, and others was unwavering.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents Robert M. Virgil, Jr. and Alma Liggins Virgil; siblings Robert M. Virgil,Ill, Maynard C. Virgil, Alice Jean Williams, and Shirley Ann Colemon; and, her son, Shelton W. Anderson.
She leaves behind to cherish memories and continue her legacy: one daughter Sharon Lyons, two sons Herman (Sonny) Anderson and Wendell E. Anderson, Sr.(Sarah); ten grandchildren: Donta (“Tay”) Stredrick, Ashleigh Lyons Marable (Ryan), Nicole McWhorter (Kraig), Shannon Crawley (Shaunda), Jason Anderson, Wendell E. Anderson, Jr.(Jessica), Bria Ingram, Brandon J. Anderson, Sr.(Rachel), Dara Williams (Mike), and Brian Anderson; twenty great-grandchildren, seven great-great grandchildren; three sisters: Barbara R. Tipper (Thomas), Delores R. Norman, and Jacquelyn (“Jackie”) Virgil; one sister-in-law Mabel (Tess) Virgil; one sister/cousin JoAnn Rakestraw; and, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
