Janice A. Coker Anderson Obituary

Janice Ann Coker was born on Tuesday, May 13, 1958 in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late Jerry D. Coker and Corene (nee Milton) Coker. There were four siblings born to this union; her brother, Jerome and sister, Cathy both preceded her in death. She was raised in Mt. Auburn with her older sister, Doretha “Doe” and younger sister, Cathy. Janice peacefully transitioned from this life and gained her wings on the night of Thursday, December 19, 2024.

She accepted Christ at a very young age and was baptized at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Cincinnati, Ohio under the pastoral leadership of the late Rev. J.M. Stephens. She continued her spiritual journey with her son and family at New Hope through her adult life.

Janice graduated from Hughes High School in 1976 (as she would often say Go Big Red!). After her graduation, she attended Betz Business College. She enjoyed almost two decades in Stock & Security at Fifth Third Bank. She was employed with the US Post Office for over 20 years at the time of her death. She was married to Robert Anderson, Sr. Their union was blessed with one son, Saveair Shakur, who was affectionately called Budha by her family. Janice was proud to call Budha’s sister (Ebony) and brothers (RJ and DeMarco), her “bonus” children.

Janice had an outgoing and strong personality. She insisted on letting others know exactly where she stood. As her family and friends knew well, she would neither bite her tongue nor mince her words. Always eager and willing to lend a helping hand, she was universally loved by those who had the great privilege of being her family and friends.

On a personal note, to know Janice is to know that she loved to cook. Moreover, she was a great cook whose kitchen was regularly open to her family and friends. As the family would say “Janice could throw down.” When it came to plants, she had a green thumb. She was also a gifted arts-and-crafts person. If you needed

decorations, center pieces or corsages, she was the go to person. Her strong passion was for African art and artifacts.

Janice is preceded in death by her parents, Jerry and Corene (nee Milton) Coker; brother, Jerome and sister, Cathy Greene Williams. She is survived by the following to cherish and celebrate her life: her beloved son, Saveair “Budha”; sister, Doretha “Doe” Curry (Robert); bonus children, Ebony Ivy, Robert Anderson “RJ” and DeMarco Dawkins; godson, Anteongo Estil; goddaughters, Janice Ann Morris and Danielle Duskin; special nephew, Javoid; special nieces, Rochelle, Roneisha and Riana; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. She will also be fondly remembered by her cousin, William Coker “Pee Wee” whom she shared a special bond.

Janice truly danced to her own music. She was uniquely authentic.
