Jemima Irving Obituary

Jemima James Irving was born at home on December 31, 1929 in Stanmore Hill, Saint Elizabeth, Jamaica, WI, to Era Williams and Stanley James. She was affectionately known as “Daisy”. She was the second of the three siblings; two preceded her in death. She departed this life on this side on May 17, 2023 at 4:14 a.m., with her daughter holding her hands while talking and humming her favorite song, “Amazing Grace” as she slept away to Glory.

She accepted Christ at an early age. She moved to Kingston after the passing of her mother to start a life for herself. She was the mother of three children: Leonie, Norman and Collin. One thing that was in her every day life is the greatness of God.

In 1966, she migrated to the United States to join her sister, Eunice Williams in search of a better life for her and her children and made Cincinnati, Ohio her home. In 1969, she married George Irving. George Irving passed away in 1986.

Jemima Irving was a genuinely kindhearted woman with the heart of a missionary. Her work for the Lord exceeded the walls of the church and crossed denominational lines. During the 10 years she was a member of Southern Baptist Church, she was a part of a prayer band that went from house to house praying in the homes of congregants. She also held prayer services in her own home. Many people were saved and gave their lives to the Lord in these Spirit-filled prayer meetings.

In addition, she fed the hungry, took in strangers. As a dedicated woman of prayer, Mother Irving’s hunger and thirst for God grew and it guided her path where she was led to other ministries for spiritual growth and development. After years under an Apostolic ministry, she was ordained under Pastor Robert Knight of Christ Memorial AOH and became a licensed Evangelist. She gained a greater foundation in her calling. A greater thirst led her to join the Tree of Life Church where she is currently a member. Under that ministry she was further inspired and under girded in the Word of God.

Evangelist Irving was a progressive woman in both natural and spiritual things. She did not allow herself to become complacent, always seeking for more.

On September 27, 2008, at the age of 80, she married Benjamin Grant in a lavish wedding, hosted by the Reynolds family.

She was a world traveler and knew no strangers. She was altogether regal and always said she was a “child of the king”, so she got to be a princess naturally.

She was employed at Good Samaritan Hospital and various homes as a domestic. She finally retired from Mercer and Abby Reynolds after 30 plus years of service, where she was regarded and treated as family.
